Thoughts From Guys On Our IM: When Was The Last Time You Cried?

In the time I have been interviewing the guys on my IM about everything from anal sex and condom use to masturbation and cheating, they have never been as uncomfortable with a question as they were with this one. A study out of Australia says that men cry an average of six times a year, while women cry 30-64 times or a year (or 2 hours and 14 minutes a day!). We already asked you how often you cry, but I decided to ask the fellas when was the last time they shed a tear and why. I was pretty stunned. Keep reading »

How Often Do You Cry?

There’s something that’s been on my mind for a couple of months now that I need to address. Do you guys remember that article I blogged about way back in August that discussed what makes women cry? In addition to listing the top five things that make women cry at various points of their lives, the article also claimed that grown women spend roughly two hours and 14 minutes each week crying. At the time, that number struck me as extremely high, but I decided to test it out, and so, over the last two months I’ve been keeping track of my crying. The grand total? About seven minutes. In fact, I can recall only three times over the last two months that I cried at all, and loathe that I am to admit it, two of those times were because I’d gotten too fat to wear anything in my closet. What Makes Women Cry?

Men may spend an average of 43 minutes a day — roughly a year of their lives — ogling women, but a new study has found that women spend six months more than that crying! Researchers found that “between birth and the age of 78 a woman will cry for more than 12,000 hours,” or roughly 16 months of her life. The study cites “hunger as a baby to falling out with a partner when older” as reasons for the tears. When I got an accidental mullet a few years back, I cried for three months straight. Tears Are Not So Cathartic After All

Do your emotions ever overflow to the point that you know a “good cry” is inevitable? This happens to me regularly. I usually welcome the tears because conventional knowledge is that crying is cathartic. But sometimes I end up feeling worse than I did before. At least I’m not alone.

Tears accompany a myriad of human emotions — sadness, happiness, anger, nervousness, etc., and sometimes, a “good cry” is the only way to regain mental balance when your emotions are out of whack. But some researchers say that linking crying with emotional cleansing is misleading because not everyone feels better after every cry. Those, like me, who place a high expectation on a tearful breakdown often experience emotional confusion afterward.

So the next time I feel like crying, I’m just going to veg out on chocolate, watch a funny flick, and cuddle my cats, instead. [New York Times] Keep reading »

Sex On TV: “Grey’s Anatomy” Shows Lesbian Sex Is Worth Crying Over

On last night’s “Grey’s Anatomy”, newbie lesbians, Callie and Erica finally figured out how to master great sex. Erica was so overcome with emotion from finally realizing what she’d be missing all of these years that she was brought to tears. Callie, unsure of whether or no she was a true lesbian, or just bisexual, was a little freaked out.

Crying after sex is normally a big no-no, but if you’re so overcome with emotion what do you do? Have you experienced some post coital tears? Keep reading »
