New York Fashion Week is here, bitches! It’s time to prepare your eyeballs for weird accessories, fancy dresses, new trends, styles we can’t pronounce and fabrics we didn’t know existed.
Today kicked off the first of many NYFW runway shows where we got to take a sneak peek at the hottest ready-to-wear looks for Spring 2014. While there were certainly some ensembles resembling bathrobes and costumes that might be found in “Alice in Wonderland,” there was one trend from this summer that found its way into the spring collections: crop tops!
Though I could NEVER wear something baring my midriff unless I wanted to blind those around me, apparently the crop top has staying power! Who knew?! But which of these runway crop top looks is more “wearable” for the masses? Cast your vote above!
Against all odds, Lily Collins — daughter of ’80s soft rock god Phil Collins — has made the crop top red carpet -worthy. Seen here at the premiere of “Immortal Instruments,” Lily is showing strangers like me how elegant an exposed navel can be. What a wake up call! If there’s one good thing that’s come out of the hipster movement, it’s the crop top. They have this effortlessly cool vibe about them, like somehow when we slip one on we’ll magically transform into Alexa Chung or Sienna Miller. But I’ll be the first to admit, crop tops are a tricky bunch. Unless you have abs of steel, don’t get those microscopic ones and pair them with low cut shorts. For everyone else, crops look great with high-waisted pants, shorts and skirts. And as long as there’s no midriff peeking out, you can virtually wear them to any and all occasions. So here’s to you hipsters, thanks for giving back.
