Guy Sells Engagement Ring On Craigslist — For $1!

What do you do when an engagement goes sour? If you’re one anonymous guy in Iowa, you put the ring up for sale on Craigslist, for a dollar. According to the post, which has since been removed by the author (most likely due to the high volume of interest):

“A jeweler and I designed the ring in 2009 for an amazing woman. She wore it during our engagement, an engagement that we ended a bit ago with great regret. A grad student, I know I should be selling it so as to buy groceries and fill the laundromat washing machine with quarters. Like most students I’m living pretty hand-to-mouth. Yet there’s something about treating this token of deep love like a used car that feels wrong, feels like a violation of everything beautiful about the world that drew this woman and I together in the first place. I joyfully put my pennies away for months so she could wear this. Knowing that a lot of us are struggling to pay the bills right now, I’m hoping that the gift of this ring might make it easier for another couple to begin a life together.”

Here’s hoping this guy finds true love with someone new. [Racked] Keep reading »

Don’t Try To Sell Your Stolen Mini Horse On Craigslist

When Tammy Worth’s miniature horse Munchkin was stolen out of her Cooper City, FL front yard earlier this week, she and the neighborhood kids that enjoy hanging out with Munchkin were heartbroken. But then Worth went on Craigslist, and not, oh, 10 minutes later, the not-so-crafty thief had put her horse up for sale on the classifieds site. After an undercover sting operation,19-year-old Tyler Carlin was arrested for trying to sell the horse, and was charged with grand theft of a commercial farm animal. And Munchkin is now safely home! We love a happy ending. [Sun Sentinel] Keep reading »

Girl Talk: I Responded To A Missed Connection Ad

I’ve accomplished a few really great things in my life — losing 100 pounds, getting sober‚ but I’m not sure anything has been as personally satisfying as the day that I had a Missed Connection posted about me.

If you’re not familiar, Missed Connections is the section on Craigslist where dudes post about hot girls they saw but were too afraid to talk to, and vice-versa. The idea of being chosen, spotted out of all the rest as uniquely attractive and compelling is like a low-rent fairytale that takes place on the R train instead of in a castle. Keep reading »

TSA Body Search Inspires Love

While most of us are dreading invasive TSA searches at the airport, one guy in Reno loved his enough to post a Missed Connection on Craigslist. Pretty sad that a TSA full-body pat down is the only action this guy is getting. Should someone email him and let him know that the dude who cupped his nuts was just doing his job? Or was he? Girl Talk: My Husband Contacted A Prostitute And It Saved Our Marriage

Dear _________, Thank you for posting your prostitution ad on Craigslist. I’m not being sarcastic. Last year, I called you the “c” word when I asked you to stop writing my husband. We blocked your email address so your emails would stop.

I stalked your website. You were selling sex. I hated you and your youth. Your disregard for the norms I grew up with made me sick. I was taught that sex was special, and there you were, selling it. Worse, my husband took your bait. You pretended to be a Yale music student. You posed in your underwear and bra. You were “looking” for friends because you were new to town. In answering my husband, you asked if he could pick you up. The day he wrote you, he told me he loved me. Keep reading »

Dear Wendy Updates: “Craigslist Caution” Responds

Hey, are you someone I’ve given advice to in the past? Do you have an update on your situation you’re willing to share? Email me at {encode=”dearwendy@thefrisky.com” title=”dearwendy@thefrisky.com”} with a link to the original post, and let me know whether you followed the advice and how you’re doing now. Sometimes people write to me with an idea of what they want to hear and when they don’t hear just that, well, they aren’t very happy … and sometimes they let me know it. Today we hear from Craigslist Caution, the woman who occasionally catches her husband perusing the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist when he’s feeling sexually rejected and is looking for new friends. Despite even catching him emailing someone from the site, she still wasn’t sure whether she should be worried or just chalk this up to “curiosity.” I told her there was definitely something to be worried about, but that was not the answer she wanted to hear and she had some choice words for me. Read ‘em and weep, after the jump. Keep reading »

Why Shutting Down Craigslist “Adult Services” Won’t Actually Make A Difference

Last week the popular online classifieds site Craigslist shut down one of its more lucrative sectors — its “Adult Services” section. Thanks to an effort lead by Richard Blumenthal, a Connecticut attorney general, the Craigslist’s “Adult Services” section is now “censored” and unavailable to users. Blumenthal and his associates fought to shut down the the section down because they believe that it was promoting not just prostitution, but child sex trafficking. Said Blumenthal: “… these prostitution ads did not promote a victimless crime. There is human trafficking in children, assaults on women.”

Proponents of the “Adult Services” ban believe that it will help shut down sex and child traffickers by giving them one less venue out of which to operate. But is that really true? Keep reading »

Dear Wendy: “I Caught My Husband Perusing The Casual Encounters Ads On Craigslist”

The other day I got home and “caught” my husband perusing the casual encounters ads on Craigslist. He’s done this in the past and tells me he does it when he feels rejected by me sexually. We have sex three to four times a week. He told me he hasn’t contacted anybody. Since he’s not big on computer porn or videos (we do have couples porn and occasionally watch), I guess I just want to know if I should be worried. Truth be told, when we were going through a hard time a few years ago, I did catch him actually writing an email to someone on Craigslist. I want to believe him now that he’s not contacting anybody — his body language and everything seems to indicate so. Plus, his actions speak very loudly — he’s always home on time, etc. After talking about it, he said he needed friends for when I got pissed off (he’s not very sociable). Should I be worried or just let this go as curiosity/arousal/etc.? — Craigslist Caution

Grossest Missed Connection Ever: The Booger Picker

My friend stumbled upon this very unique Craigslist missed connection ad. I’m still refusing to believe that it’s real. It simply can’t be, but, alas, it’s been haunting me. You have to read the entire thing (maybe even a few times), but the gist is that a “tiny Asian girl” noticed a man ogling her on the subway. But what really got her all hot and bothered was the fact that he was … wait for it … PICKING HIS NOSE AND EATING IT! Noooooooo! But there’s more. She goes on to say, “I’m telling you all this because I want you to know that the girl whose body you were ogling today really does have this nose-picking fetish, and I want you to realize that I really did want to make a move on you once I saw you with your finger in your nose. I’m fantasizing about sitting on your lap, facing you, and taking off my top for you while I gently play with the inside of your nose with my fingers and tongue. I’ll eat your boogers in front of you, and you’ll experience first-hand how excited it makes me.” No words. No freaking words. [Craigslist] Keep reading »

Craigslist Dating Experiment: Looking For A “Feminist Man”

There are lots of good reasons not to go looking for love on Craigslist — namely, getting stabbed by some creep. But The Frisky will condone Craigslist dating “experiments” of the feminist variety, like the one conducted by Alexandra Tweten, a blogger for Ms. magazine. Tweten posted a W4M personals ad on Craigslist in L.A., describing herself as a feminist journalist, and urging only pro-choice feminist guys to respond.

The responses, as you can imagine, were discouraging. (But at least she only got two photos of penises, right?) Keep reading »
