I’m not a big fan of a lot of the text-based decorating trends that Pinterest obsesses over (ahem, “Live, Laugh, Love” wall decals, I’m looking at you), but when I saw these cute DIY shower stickers, I must admit I was thoroughly charmed. I think it’s because, like many people, I do some of my best thinking while I’m lathering up. I’d love to decorate my bathroom tiles with snippets of poetry, math equations, and other words and pictures to rev up my brain in the morning. Plus, this tutorial couldn’t be easier–all you need is a vinyl shower curtain, scissors, and a Sharpie! [Love Maegan]
Want to really delve into the collective psyche of your dysfunctional family this holiday season? Make a set of these Rorschach test placemats, arrange them around the table for Christmas dinner, and let everyone explain what they see. You could even have a prize for the most creative interpretation, but obviously you know the truth: they’re all vaginas. [Whimsey Box]
This holiday season we’re really letting our crafty flag fly. Homemade gifts and decorations are not only unique, heartfelt, and (often) better for the environment, they’re also really fun to make: crank up the Christmas music, pour yourself a cup of hot cocoa, and get crafting! We kicked things off last weekend with some awesome DIY gift bags; now let’s check out some funky ornaments to decorate your tree, shall we? Click on the gallery to get inspired!
This month I’m hoping to fill every possible moment with pumpkin-themed activities: pumpkin carving parties, pumpkin patch adventures, pumpkin dessert potlucks, pumpkin-launching catapult shenanigans, etc. And I didn’t know it until now, but none of these activities would be complete without the glorious presence of a PUMPKIN KEG. Apparently it’s super easy to make your own, although the tutorial recommends Sam Adams Octoberfest beer, while I think the occasion clearly calls for a pumpkin ale. But hey, if you really want to get the party started, fill it with pumpkin pie-infused vodka. Cheers to fall! [Celebrations]
If you’re in need of a new hanging lampshade and looking for an excuse to play with balloons and glue this weekend, do I have the project for you! This whirled yarn lampshade is not only a striking piece of home decor, it looks fairly simple to make (yes, really), as long as you don’t mind getting a bit sticky. And just imagine all the opportunities it will give you to say, “Oh, the lampshade? Why thank you, I made it myself!” [Pickles]
It turns out that we have something in common with 2011 Miss America winner Teresa Scanlan. She’s obsessed with using duct tape…for crafts and accessories that is. According to this New York Times article, Scanlan can’t get enough of the adhesive. She said, “I’ve made a duct tape skirt, shorts, a couple shirts and a dress is my next project … You know how they ask you what three things you’d want on a desert island? I’d only want one thing: duct tape. It’s all you need.”
After reading about everything from duct tape prom dresses to knock-off purses, we decided to take a closer look at the new duct tape fad. Flip through the slideshow below for 15 incredible duct tape projects we found. Read more…
