This might look like a photo from a beauty editorial in a fashion magazine, but it’s actually a painting by hyper-realist artist Simon Hennessey. I’ve spent approximately four hours examining those exquisitely detailed pores and whispering, “No freaking way! That’s paint?” (As you can tell I am an eloquent art critic). If you’ve got time to kill, check out his online gallery for more mind-blowing examples. I might need to clear my schedule for the rest of the day to make time for necessary gawking and gasping. Freezers are good for many things: preserving food, chilling vodka, storing body parts, and, apparently, cleaning denim. Seriously: sticking your jeans in the freezer for a few days will kill bacteria and alleviate odors while avoiding significant shrinkage (George Costanza would be proud). Stains can’t be frozen out, but this is an interesting technique nonetheless.
I wash my jeans after every wear because I’m kind of a fanatic about squeaky clean jeans, but I might have to give this method a try just out of curiosity. How about you — how do you usually wash your jeans, and how often? [via Crushable]
Everyone loves a nostalgic set of black and white photobooth pics of you and your buds. If you’re like us, you usually acquire these at bars with the old-school machines. While that’s all good and fun, there are two problems: 1.) It’s so addicting you could easily empty your wallet; 2.) Beer time doesn’t always make for the most photogenic moments. That’s why we’re obsessed with this DIY website, La PhotoCabine, which lets you print out your own replicas (you do need a webcam, obvi). The process is pretty intuitive—click the curtain to “enter” the booth, then push the orange button on the right, and pose for four consecutive pics. You can choose to organize them in the classic vertical line, or a foursquare like I did above. Download, print, and voilà! [LaPhotoCabine.com] Keep reading »
