Have you ever wanted to eat at a well-known restaurant but couldn’t get there in time for dinner because you live on the opposite side of the country? Yeah? Well, then you know how excited we are that Jenny Katzinger, owner of the Flying Apron Bakery in Seattle, is sharing her recipes in Flying Apron’s Gluten-Free & Vegan Baking Book. The cookbook not only includes recipes for delectable baked goods like scones, cookies, and cakes, but it also has step-by-step instructions for entrées and soups anyone — even the pickiest eaters — can enjoy. And even though all the recipes are 100 percent gluten-free, they’re easy to follow. We can’t wait to try the Dark Chocolate Cake. [$14.93, Amazon]
WIN THIS! We’re giving away Flying Apron’s Gluten-Free & Vegan Baking Book to two readers, but you have to work if you want it! The best commenters for the next two weeks—from today, Friday, Dec. 18 through Thursday, Dec. 31—will be awarded with the book. So, be as clever, smart, and original as you can. Who says the fashion world abhors food? Not Assouline, the publishers of a new book called the “American Fashion Cookbook.” Containing original concoctions by 100 members of the CFDA, the recipes are also accompanied by fashionable illustrations and sketches. With a forward by Martha Stewart, you also get the lowdown on Isaac Mizrahi’s mushroom truffle spaghetti, Derek Lam’s yellowtail crudo, and Mark Ecko’s chocolate chip cookies recipe.
Just promise you won’t feed the models. [$45, Assouline.com] Keep reading »
Seems like everything Kate Gosselin tries to do these days falls through. The woman is getting divorced, “Jon & Kate Plus 8″ is postponed, the release date for her cookbook/family advice book, Love Is In The Mix: Making Meals Into Memories, was pushed back, and now mama Kate’s new clothing line for kids is “on hold.” Why any clothing company would think that because Kate has a bunch of kids, she has the fashion sense to design clothes for them (come on, look at that hair) is beyond me. And it seems Healthtex clothes may feel the same way… Keep reading »
According to Amazon, Kate Gosselin’s new book Love Is In The Mix: Making Meals Into Memories was supposed to be available on October 13. But now it looks like it’s going to be a little longer before anyone can snag a copy. It took seven days after Jon and Kate’s “surprise” announcement for Christian publisher Zondervan to realize that a cookbook filled with pictures of the happy family and advice on how to make lasting family memories didn’t quite fit the Gosselin’s current public image. Which is why Zondervan has pumped the brakes on the project and will work with Kate on revising the book for a later release date. To help speed up the process, here are a few pieces of Kate’s book I’d like to highlight for revision. [People] Keep reading »
Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s new book The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide is supposed to help people with Celiac disease, like herself, eat well. Too bad she may have ripped the idea from someone else. Massachusetts-based author Susan Hasset is suing the “View” co-host for copyright infringement. Apparently Hasset, who can’t digest wheat either, sent Hasselbeck a copy of her book Living With Celiac Disease last April, along with a cooking video, a note, a business card, and a nice bundle of info. So is it just a coincidence that Hasselbeck’s book hit the shelves last month? [Fox News] Keep reading »
