How Raw Is Your Blog?

Is your blog so incredibly raw that its master deserves to be rewarded with $1000 worth of G-Star products? Is your blog so raw that it deserves to be mentioned in a magazine? If so, enter it in Dazed and Confused‘s Raw Blog Awards contest. The deadline is July 31st, after which the top 15 blogs in each category (music, fashion, arts & culture and photography) will be selected.

From there, it’s a cage match to the death. (By “cage match to the death” we mean “online poll starting August 1st.”) By September 1, the top blog in each of the four genres will be determined and the winners walk away with G-Star products and a mention in the October issue of Dazed and Confused. Not too shabby, eh? Keep reading »

Israeli Women Compete In Truck-Pulling Contest For The First Time Ever

For the first time ever three women competed in an annual Israeli truck-pulling competition. The female contestants had to pull a 7.5-ton truck (about 16,535 lbs.) 30 meters (about 98 ft.). Vera Spaniev, a 32-year-old former weightlifter, won the ladies competition. Check out the video above to see women with bulging muscles and painful looks of determination and focus. Quick Pic: NOW’s Curvaceous “Love Your Body” Winner

Thanks to Daily Bedpost for noticing that we’d probably all love our bodies if our figures were as hourglass as this. Personally, we prefer the winner from the kid’s category. [NOW Foundation via Daily Bedpost] Keep reading »

The Mother Of Invention Could Be You

Still upset you didn’t win the school science fair? Well, Whirlpool is giving you a chance to come in first place as an adult. The company has just announced their 4th Annual Mother of Invention Contest for crafty women with clever product ideas. Prizes include a $20,000 grant for the winner, four runners up will get $6,000 a piece, enrollment in business boot camp, and of course some will even be awarded appliances. Past award-winning innovations include a baby bottle nipple that adjusts to fit the sizes of a variety of bottles, a plunger that stores under the hood of the toilet, a waterproof bra, and a germaphobe’s dream cleaning service for children’s toys. So while the competition is stiff, the catch is, you also have to have been through labor. But you know, mothers know best. [Start Up Spark] Keep reading »

Free Cake!

That’s right: free cake! And you don’t need to go to Costco on the weekend to get a bite, you just have to go to Brides.com. The site is running a national designer cake contest and will give away the nominees — which are sure to taste as good as they look. The confections draw inspiration from designer Christian LaCroix and pop artist Wayne Theibaud to a chef’s grandma’s wallpaper. Although the website has finally found a better reason to marry than a green card, er, I mean love, the price tags may make you sicker than eating the whole thing solo — which is probably why they’re only giving the cakes away to brides. So, unfortunately, this sugar-lovin’ single gal can’t apply unless some sucker proposes soon. But, if you’ve already won someone’s heart, you can also win a cake by voting on your favorite entry. Dang, some girls have all the luck! [Brides.com] Keep reading »

A CPK Love Story

YouTube video contests can yield some, um, interesting results (like this dance video, set to ‘N Sync’s “Tearing Up My Heart”, which was submitted to a Swiffer contest). So, when I came across the winning video for 1-800-Flowers’ Greatest Love Stories contest, I skeptically pressed play. Rapper TraPhik’s winning entry is pretty awesome. He rhymes about how he falls in love with a girl who comes into CPK (California Pizza Kitchen) to apply for a job. He brings her a Shirley Temple (that delicious drink made of ginger ale and grenadine syrup) and a bag of cookies, and after a few phone calls to Cupid, they end up making out in the back room at work.
