A shout out to RoyalEagle0408 who sent me this Atlantic article, The Sex Lives of Conjoined Twins, which endeavors to answer some of the questions the TLC show “Abby & Brittany” failed to touch upon. In a British documentary about conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel twins, which aired a couple of years back, there was mention of Brittany being engaged. The promise of learning about the twins’ love/sex lives was what initially motivated me to watch their TLC series.

My questions were endless: If the twins have sex with a guy, is it considered a threesome? If they masturbate is it considered incestuous? Do both of them have to approve of a sex partner? If a partner touches one genital does the other feel it? And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I stopped watching “Abby & Brittany” after a few episodes when it became clear that anything having to do with sex wasn’t going to be addressed and that the most titillating bits I would see would involve Abby and Brittany riding Segways and eating pizza. (No mention of what happened when they digested that pizza.) Keep reading »

A boyfriend for Abby and Brittany?

I feel like an awful human being saying this, but TLC’s “Abby & Brittany” just isn’t living up to my expectations in terms of answering any of my technical questions. HOW DO THEY POOP? Don’t get me wrong, they are wonderful, inspiring human beings. I enjoyed learning how they drive, watching them ride a Segway, student teach and get ready for their college graduation. The only scientifically interesting things I learned last night was that their stomachs hurt on opposite sides when they eat too much pizza and that they can simultaneously be different temperatures. Weird. The most exciting bit of the show, besides the previews for “Breaking Amish” (which looks enthralling by the way … Rumspringa!), was their hang out session Josiah, their “best friend.” Best friend, eh? Um, I think they are both in lurrvvvvveeee with Josiah. It’s so obvious. But are the feelings reciprocal? Let’s assess the romantic tension after the jump. Keep reading »

TLC is like my spirit animal cable channel, so my hopes were lofty for “Abby & Brittany,” the new show about 22-year-old identical, conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel. I saw TLC’s special about them way back when they were 16 and getting their driver’s license. Then, I saw some British special filmed when they were 19 and Brittany was believed to be engaged. I was hoping “Abby & Brittany” would be all about navigating one twin’s relationship. And maybe even HOW SEX WORKS FOR THEM. They have one vagina. Conjoined Twin Girls Share A Brain

Four-year-old conjoined twins Tatiana and Krista Hogan are an anomaly among anomalies. Not only are they surviving conjoined twins, and not only are they attached at the head, but they actually share part of their brains, the thalamus. Almost unbelievably, Macleans.ca reports, “There is evidence that they can see through each other’s eyes and perhaps share each other’s unspoken thoughts.” The thalamus is the portion of the brain that processes and relays sensory information, and the twins have a “bridge” that runs between theirs. During tests, a neurosurgeon involved in their medical progress found that when one twin looked at an object, the brains of both twins recorded the information. These strange factors have led some to wonder — are the twins two separate people … or one?
