The Must-Have Glamping Accessory

With the release of the Coachella lineup, it’s time to start thinking about your festival schedule, and clearly your look for the season. Since Bonnaroo and Coachella are THE places to not only wear Hunters and leather fringe but also to show off your inspiring fashion sense, you’ll need to start planning your outfits, like, now. In addition to the new clothes, another must-have is fashionable digs to pair with your style, so allow Zandra Rhodes to provide the perfect tent. Her teepee is Indian-inspired and colored in hot pink, which will stand out against the dreary black and gray of most tents, making it that much easier to crawl home at night. And since you’ll be sleeping in style, here are some more glamping accessories to pair with your high-fashion tent. [Grazia] Keep reading »

Lilith Fair Returns This Summer With Performers We Actually Want To Hear

Lilith Fair, the female-centric music festival that toured from 1997 through 1999, is staging a comeback this summer, and many of this year’s performers have been announced. The women who took to the stage in the ’90s represented a number of genres, but a heck of a lot of them made folk music (i.e., Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Indigo Girls). The performers for 2010 are a nice mix and include some of the same headliners (McLachlan, Crow, Erykah Badu, Emmylou Harris) with a lot of newer acts, too. Click through to find out which acts we’re excited about. [Nettwerk, Lilith Fair] Keep reading »

The Shock Over Britney Spears’ Lip-Syncing Is Ludicrous

It’s not often that I agree with John Mayer, but even I have to admit he had a point when he tweeted: “If you’re shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you.” You see, Britney Spears is on the Australia-leg of her “Circus” tour, and some fans and Australian government officials are upset that she lip-syncs during the performances. “It was so impersonal. She did not interact with her audience,” says dissatisfied fan Wendy Di Renzo, who told People she paid $148 for her ticket. “There were no big TV screens projecting the action, so if you didn’t know Britney, you might have even doubted it was her.” Australian press reported that fans walked out of her shows after a few songs, saying it was boring, mimed, and stiff. The Fair Trade Minister of New South Wales even suggested that concert tickets carry a disclaimer about whether artists lip-sync or prerecord parts of their concerts. But anyone who is a true Britney fan should know that she very rarely sings live during her performances. Her voice isn’t strong enough for her to sing while dancing and performing acrobatics, so fans have to decide whether they want to be visually entertained while hearing her music. And what fun is a pop music concert if the artist sits in a chair while singing the whole time? [Reuters, People]

Muslim Conservatives In Malaysia Are Not So Crazy In Love With Beyonce

Beyonce has postponed an Oct. 25 performance in Malaysia after Muslim conservatives in that country accused her show of being “immoral.” The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, Malaysia’s largest opposition group, has called for the cancellation of the show because they say it would promote “Western sexy performances.” A statement released by Marctensia entertainment company says the decision to postpone was made solely by Beyonce. In 2007, she canceled a planned performance after protest threats from the Islamic opposition party, but said at the time it was a result of scheduling conflicts. Female performers in Malaysia are required by law to cover up from the shoulders to the knees, without any visible cleavage. And, last month, Marctensia said Beyonce and others involved had “come to an amicable understanding” about her performance costumes. (But the postponement suggests this wasn’t true.) If the problem here is Beyonce’s bedazzled leotards, we can’t wait to see the more conservative, body-covering versions she comes up with. Can Sasha be Fierce without showing off her legs, booty, and cleavage? Keep reading »

Lady Gaga Is A No-Show

Fifty thousand angry people booed and hissed at a concert in Manchester on Saturday when Lady Gaga, who was supposed to be performing to support the band Take That, decided to skip out. Is there anybody else reading this who has never heard of Take That? Well, regardless, I’m sure most of you have heard of Lady Gaga and with the price of concert tickets these days, I’d be pretty pissed if a big shot like her didn’t show for a…show. [Metro UK] After the jump, some other artists who’ve been MIA at gigs. Keep reading »

Concert Tickets, Without A Zillion Fees

I hate when I buy concert tickets and the price of the ticket is practically doubled by excessive charges and fees. Well, tomorrow—that’s June 3rd, people—I’ll be able to dry my tears. To appease frustrated fans, LiveNation.com is nixing all service fees tomorrow for any tickets bought to amphitheater shows. “No Service Fee Wednesday” begins at 12:01am and lasts for 24 hours. And on scattered Wednesdays for the rest of the summer, Live Nation will be running other promotions. [Billboard]

So here’s whose tickets we’re gonna snag for cheap tomorrow. Keep reading »

Please Retire The Circus/Carnival Concert Theme

(From left to right): Pink’s “Funhouse” tour; Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour; Britney Spears’ “Circus” tour

Pink surprisingly jumped on the circus-themed concert bandwagon with her “Funhouse” tour costumes. When a wannabe badass like Pink starts jumping on a trend, it’s time to retire it. So, we implore these concert producers to stop with the three-ring, freak show madness. Even Katy Perry refused to do the circus thing for a recent concert, saying, “That’s really being done by a lot of people right now.”
