5 Style Lessons I Learned At The Backstreet Boys Concert Last Friday

Backstreet Boys photo

Last Friday, my childhood BFF Brittany and I reunited to take a road trip to the New Kids On The Block/Backstreet Boys concert in a city 150 miles north of ours. I say “road trip” but it was more of a religious pilgrimage to worship at the altar of AJ McLean’s facial hair (if you’re unversed in the BSB gospel, AJ is the bad boy of the group, and Brittany and I have been trying to get him to marry us since 1997). The concert was incredible, obviously, complete with dazzling pyrotechnics, dreamy harmonies, and Jordan Knight straining so hard to hit his high notes that I genuinely feared for his well-being. Over the course of this grand adventure, I learned a few lessons about style that will stick with me forever… Keep reading »

Summer Heat Brings On Tour Cancellation Fever

There is a dangerous outbreak on the loose. Lucky for us, it only affects musicians. A rash of bands and performers have been canceling dates or entire tours for a variety of reasons, with scheduled dates in the U.S. suffering the most terminations. U2 has called off the North American leg of their tour to give lead singer Bono time to recover from emergency back surgery. Rock band Muse has axed and postponed several dates in the United States to allow the drummer of the band to be home for the birth of his child. When it comes to health and family, tour cancellations are understandable, especially when both bands are promising refunds and make up dates. A little less forgivable was Christina Aguilera erasing her entire North American tour because she didn’t feel ready and her people wanted the concerts to be closer to the release of her film “Burlesque.” This means if you want to see Christina get “Bionic” you will have until 2011.

“I heard you get mad. You’re a little pissed off I understand. However, I thought you would enjoy the montage. I humble myself and thank you for being so good over the years. Well, I’m here now and have even changed my clothes.”

Whitney Houston tries to get the Birmingham, UK, crowd back in her corner after disappearing for three songs, leaving the backup singers to do her work, and playing a video montage with recorded music. There’s some debate whether Whitney’s performance was great or horrible. Check out a video after the jump and judge for yourself. Things get interesting around the 2:20 mark. With the release of the Coachella lineup, it’s time to start thinking about your festival schedule, and clearly your look for the season. Since Bonnaroo and Coachella are THE places to not only wear Hunters and leather fringe but also to show off your inspiring fashion sense, you’ll need to start planning your outfits, like, now. Lilith Fair Returns This Summer With Performers We Actually Want To Hear

Lilith Fair, the female-centric music festival that toured from 1997 through 1999, is staging a comeback this summer, and many of this year’s performers have been announced. The women who took to the stage in the ’90s represented a number of genres, but a heck of a lot of them made folk music (i.e., Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Indigo Girls). The performers for 2010 are a nice mix and include some of the same headliners (McLachlan, Crow, Erykah Badu, Emmylou Harris) with a lot of newer acts, too. Click through to find out which acts we’re excited about. [Nettwerk, Lilith Fair] Keep reading »
