Beauty Test Drive: LORAC Touch-Up To Go Concealer/Foundation Pen

Watch Jessica Try It!

As a lady with more than a little redness on her face, concealer is one of my must-have beauty products. Concealers come in many forms, like sticks, tubes, and pots, but my particular favorite is a pen or wand. With a foundation wand, you can apply it directly onto your skin and pat it down with the applicator yourself — that way, you never have to touch your face with your dirty fingers. (Do I really need to remind you that touching your face is BAD for your skin?) Plus, it’s super easy to carry in your purse for touchups throughout your day. LORAC clearly had this in mind with their new Touch-Up To Go Concealer/Foundation Pen, which I’m happy to report is part of my daily beauty routine now. Keep reading »

My pale, winter skin had set in, and I needed to update my go-to concealer for a lighter shade. Instead of purchasing the same solution, I opted to try the well-reviewed Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. This product claims to nourish skin with jojoba and honey, while providing waterproof, crease proof, and transfer resistant coverage. Ha, yeah right. As someone who has struggled to find concealer to cover dark under eye circles, I was skeptical. If this product could provide the coverage I desired, the nourishing powers would simply be a bonus. Keep reading »

Concealer is one of those beauty products that isn’t the least bit fun to purchase. It’s a lot more exciting to go straight to the eyeshadows and lip glosses, you know? But the un-fun stuff like foundation and concealer is what someone with, say, redness around their T-zone uses to get an unblemished palette, so to speak. So it’s absolutely worth your while to find a concealer to cover up zits, undereye circles or redness. And if you have more widespread skin issues, go for the gold with a liquid, cream or powder foundation to cover a larger area. I’ve been a fan of Benefit’s Boi-Ing concealer, but now I’m an even bigger fan of their newest product, Fakeup, a hydrating crease-control concealer. Keep reading »

I feel pretty lucky that the most annoying beauty problem that I face on a regular basis is dark undereye circles and redness around my nose and chin. Those are easily fixable, if not particularly “sexy.” I mean, no one gets excited about going to shop for concealer! But with the Perk Up Artist set, a compact containing three complexion corrections, Benefit admirably tries.  Keep reading »

BB cream is one of those makeup products that just appeared on the American market in the past year, causing every woman here to scratch her chin and say, “Hmmm, do we really need this?!” BB cream is basically a combination foundation/moisturizer/primer and sometimes it’s got sunscreen in it, too.  Some people swear by their BB cream. I know a few ladies who go nuts for Garnier BB cream, for instance. So when The Body Shop sent the The Frisky a few shades of their new All-In-One BB Cream to test drive, I just had to pick it up. While I’m not a full-on BB cream convert, I have to admit it’s a lot less of a hassle than using a foundation and makeup brush! Keep reading »

I’ve long complained in these Beauty Test Drives that I have dry skin. The driest skin. Well, I’m going to complain about it again! But this time it is to tell you that Benefit’s Boi-Ing concealer, which has a greasy, almost melted-waxy consistency, is a super choice for quick coverups on the go. Or, in moments of morning-after desperation, you could use it all over your face as a foundation.   Keep reading »

Make Up Forever HD Powder Is Behind Hollywood’s Concealer Blunders

The paps snapped Eva Longoria on an apparent date with actor Kevin Connolly. And of course everyone noticed the extreme white concealer under Eva’s eyes. She’s the latest celebrity to sport this concealer blunder. In 2009, Nicole Kidman inspired a beauty post on how to get under-eye concealer right. We expect celebrities to have the best hair and makeup people, so how did Eva, Nicole, etc. get snapped with such unfortunate makeup? Find out after the jump. Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Make Up Forever HD Concealer

In our ongoing efforts to find the ideal concealer for these hot months, we gave Make Up Forever’s HD concealer wand a try. We were impressed by the smooth feel, oil-free aspect and the fact that it left us neither dry nor slippery. Our only gripe with the stuff is that you have to be very careful about the quantity you use because if you go a little bit overboard, you’ll start looking chalky. A built-in incentive not to overdo it with the makeup may not be such a bad thing, though. [$28, Make Up Forever, Sephora] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Liquid TimeBalm Spot Concealer

Know what’s not cute? Sweating through your makeup. Also not cute? The icky things that drying concealers do to your face as they try to banish your zits. But come summer (by which we mean the clogged pores of summer), we have a habit of turning to concealers with harsh ingredients out of pimply desperation. Here’s the problem: they don’t really work long term. For one big zit that you need to zap into submission, a concealer with salicylic acid will briefly help you out. For everyday acne, all it does is dry your skin into anger. Counter-intuitive though it sounds, a spot concealer with a touch of natural tea tree oil is actually a better way to go. We tried out TheBalm’s TimeBalm liquid concealer and kind of fell in love. It’s lightweight, so you won’t feel pancake-faced in the heat, and super soothing for sensitive or broken out skin. The ingredients are natural, the tea tree oil is a natural anti-bacteria and harsh ingredients are nowhere to be found. [$20, TheBalm, Sephora] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: Fresh Under Eye Concealer and Brightener

I’ve whined about the state of my under eye circles before, and my continued pre-occupation with them means I’m not done experimenting with fixes. This week, it was Fresh’s new Supernova Radiance Brightening Pen. Yes, the name is ridiculous, but the brightening aspect is legit. The company claims the pen acts as a concealer and brightener in one, but if you’re got real heroin chic-esque circles to tackle, I suggest using your favorite concealer along with the brightener. It may be a bit too annoying to bother doubling up on the daily, but special occasions call for super bright eyes and this will help you get there. [$24, Fresh, Sephora] Keep reading »
