The Good, The Bad & The WTF At The “The Iron Lady” Premiere

Meryl As Margaret
Meryl Streep does her best Margaret Thatcher impression. Read More »

A little birdie (that would be me) attended the New York City premiere of “The Iron Lady” last night and boy, were there a lot of celebs! Somehow I managed to stand three feet away from Meryl Streep without screetching “EEEE! I LOVE YOU!” and subsequently getting arrested. Somehow I doubt Amelia could exercise similar restraint were she in the presence of The Gos.

Perhaps due to the serious nature of the film — a biopic of Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom — the ladies in attendance opted for a sober little black dress look. Some were hits, some were misses. And Coco Rocha, bless her heart, accidentally got lost on the way to the Oscars red carpet.

Check out all the looks — the good, the bad, and the straight-up WTF — above!

I look at Coco Rocha and see a pretty woman. But casting directors have looked at the runway model and told her she is “too fat” and, recently, “too big” to be hired. Coco and model Carré Otis visited “Anderson” to talk about ways to protect models who start as teen girls, a subject they are both familiar with. Coco was scouted at 14, began modeling at 15, and moved into a model apartment in New York City at 16. She alluded to Anderson that she had trouble along the way as her body changed from naturally-skinny-and-girly to growing hips and boobs as an adult woman. Keep reading »

Coco Rocha Wore Nine West Pumps—What Was Your First Interview Outfit?

Coco Rocha tells Modelinia that for her first casting—an audition to model for Prada—she depended on a pair of Nine West pumps to make an impression:

“I had to buy my first ‘casting shoes’ which were these high stilettos. Pointy, black … I didn’t even know how to walk in them. So I ran out to the nearest Nine West store.”

Rocha still has this pair of black pumps, which she says she likes to show off to visitors to her closet. While, OK, we weren’t going on model castings as our first job interviews, we still remember with clarity what we wore for those first steps into the “real world.” Keep reading »

Watch Coco Rocha’s Wedding Video, Weep

The Cut puts it best: “The videos Coco Rocha just posted of her wedding are either a wonderful or wonderfully cruel thing to thrust in your face on a rainy Monday morning.” Too true. Watch as the 21-year-old model marries James Conran in a French castle, and your dream of getting married at the nearest White Castle may be done forever. It’s all very spectacular, romantic, and shot like a million-dollar movie. Not enough wedding porn for you? Fear not, this is only the trailer. Watch the 18-minute mini-movie after the jump. Model Coco Rocha Clears Up Her “Fat” Controversy On Her Blog

In between catwalks, model Coco Rocha took to her blog, Oh So Coco, yesterday to clear up some of the drama surrounding reports earlier this week that she had complained about being too large to walk the runway. The New York Daily News wrote that Rocha, a size four, has insinuated she was “out of favor on the runway.” Coco was also directly quoted in a New York York Times article saying, “I’ve been told to lose weight when I was really skinny … You know what, I’ve stopped caring. If I want a hamburger, I’m going to have one. No 21-year-old should be worrying about whether she fits a sample size.”

Clearly, somebody was unhappy with Rocha’s comments because last night the Canadian model penned a post on her own blog saying it was “necessary to properly express my point of view, without outside editing.” Keep reading »

Pin Thins Take Over Fashion Week & Coco Rocha Is “Too Big” To Walk

Model Coco Rocha has just claimed that she’s a runway-reject at 5′ 10″ and a size 4, and the fashion industry is getting more flack for its pin-thin models. Steven Kolb, of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, stood by the skinny standard and called the runway a world of fantasy where genetically svelte girls will always be in season. The problem is that while the council has set rules and regulations about age and body mass index, they have no way of enforcing these standards and don’t believe it is their job to do so. While some fashionistas don’t see any change on the way, Lynn Grefe, of the National Eating Disorders Association, thinks the change is going to come in the structure of the runway: “… they are going to have to widen the runway so this person can have a feeding tube on wheels.” Oooh, burn. How To Become A Supermodel

Interested in becoming a supermodel? Sure ya are! Here, follow the Georgia Jagger method, satisfaction (ha) guaranteed:

  1. Be born to celebrity parents. You may want to work this out with God beforehand.
  2. Be moderately attractive and thin. This should be easy enough assuming that step #1 works out and you’re subsequently introduced into the Hollywood diet and body image culture.
  3. Create a stir by appearing topless in an advertisement when you are still a minor.
  4. Score yourself a Vanity Fair profile to up your cultural credibility (so people will actually want to hire you). Make sure it features tasteful yet provocative photos à la Miley Cyrus to rouse more interest.
  5. Partner with other famous people. Now Georgia Jagger is following in Kate Moss‘s footsteps by landing a Rimmel campaign, a job that’s boosted by the fact that Coco Rocha will be the second face. Now just wait for the ads to come out, which will certainly lead to more work. Throw in a drug scandal and relationship drama, and there you have it … the world’s next supermodel obsession. Coco Rocha Is Vogue Korea’s Legend Of Fall

The delightful Coco Rocha graces the cover of Vogue Korea’s October issue and stars in this “Legend of Fall” spread. Models — (They Blog) Just Like Us!

Models have finally caught on to this whole blogging thing—and, man, are they into it. Coco Rocha has her own blog, “Oh So Coco,” and just recently graduated to her own Twitter feed. Sessilee Lopez, not to be outdone, has a site where she talks about the “daily grind” that is being a model in NYC. Jezebel’s “Tatiana The Anonymous Model” (aka Jenna Sauers, outed as of July 21), will be writing a new blog for Jezebel as well as starting to re-update her own blog. Keep reading »
