Karl Lagerfeld Photographs Victoria Beckham In Chanel’s Iconic Paris Home

It’s not every day that Karl Lagerfeld deems a fashionista worthy of being photographed in Coco Chanel’s iconic former Paris home at 31 Rue Cambon, so it’s kind of remarkable that he chose Victoria Beckham over someone like, say, Blake Lively. I totally thought Blake was his dress-up doll of choice these days. I do have to hand it to Posh for her seamless transition from Spice Girl and football WAG into a well-respected style icon and designer; there aren’t many former pop stars who ever enjoy the same level of high-fashion success. Victoria tweeted photos this week from a recent shoot for Elle France, where she appears alongside Lagerfeld modeling pieces from her new eyewear collection. What she doesn’t model, however, is pants, and that is completely understandable — if my legs looked like that, I wouldn’t wear pants, either. [Celebitchy]

9 Proud Sluts In History

Types Of Sluts
There's more than one, you know. Read More »

Here at The Frisky, we love sluts. When did being in charge of your sexuality become a bad thing? The word first appeared in the English language in the early 1400s as “slutte,” with the meaning being a dirty or slovenly woman. Today, nothing about being a slut has to be off-putting, given the proper accoutrements (condoms, everybody, please!). In fact, having sex for pleasure can be an exercise in healthy living and sound mental health. Promiscuity, and the ability to separate sex and physicality from emotional dependency and attachment, is not something of which to be ashamed.

Let’s take some time to honor proud sluts throughout history!

Coco Chanel’s Bisexuality, Drug-Use & Nazi Ties Come To Light In New Biography

Coco Chanel didn’t lay the foundation for her eponymous fashion empire by coloring within the lines and following the rules. So it’s not surprising that the deceased designer’s closet still holds a few skeletons–along with vintage little black Chanel dresses. In her book Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life, which will be released in the fall, biographer Lisa Chaney opens the door on Coco’s secrets. Chaney claims to have proof that Coco embraced bisexuality and drug use, and had an affair with Salvador Dali while he was married. By 2011 standards, these allegations aren’t particularly shocking, but another one might have a few fashion folks changing their opinions of the designer. Chaney also claims to have accessed documents from the Swiss Federal Archives that prove Coco’s German paramour, Hans Günther von Dincklage, spied for the Nazis during World War II. It’s unclear whether Coco knew he was a spy, but let’s not forget that she did live in neutral Switzerland for some time … perhaps to avoid any proceedings against her? This isn’t the first biography of Coco, and it probably won’t be the last, but Coco Chanel: An Intimate Life might be the most controversial and revealing.

Fashion, Music, And Forbidden Love

“Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky,” the true story of forbidden romance between two of the most creative minds of the 20th century, is out on Blu-ray and DVD today. Roger Ebert said this film, which was directed by renowned French filmmaker Jan Kounen, is an excellent biopic. It stars Anna Mouglalis, a former Chanel model, and Mads Mikkelsen. The film features exquisite costumes, including archive pieces from the House of Chanel and pieces designed by Karl Lagerfeld, as well as a score dominated by many of Stravinksy’s works.

Want A Peek Inside Coco Chanel’s Apartment?

If “Coco Avant Chanel” didn’t satisfy your prying mind about the iconic designer, here’s a bit of eye candy for you. The fashion blog Sea of Shoes got a very privileged look at Coco Chanel‘s Parisian apartment at 31 Rue Cambon. It isn’t anything like we expected! The vibe we get from the photos of the warm-toned living room and dining room with a classically set table feels much more masculine than Paris-chic. The aesthetic relies on global decor with screens that look like they were imported from China once upon a time and statues of camels and giraffes. Take a tour yourself by checking out the pics after the jump! [Sea of Shoes] Keep reading »
