Even though I grew up in Oregon, where the unofficial state motto is, “We’re always wet!” I’m not sure I have ever bought a truly waterproof jacket. I gravitate toward coats that look like they should be waterproof (my Gap anorak, for example), only to have them soak through and disintegrate in the lightest drizzle, like so many papier-mache art projects on the way to the school bus.
