We always giggle when we see magazine spreads about how stars are just like us. Yes, they may have been caught by the paparazzi whie pumping gas or buying a gallon of milk but what about how they really act the rest of the time?

Oh Noes! Ladies Are Losing Their Lady-Skills Like Cooking And Cleaning!

Whatever will the menfolk do?! Us modern hussies not only paint our lips and wear britches, but we’re losing our valuable lady skills too. There’s a study out of the Courier-Mail newspaper in Australia about how women under 30 are losing “female” skills, like cooking, cleaning and sewing. Only 20 percent of women under 30 surveyed said they could bake a cake and only 51 percent could cook a roast. Women of the Baby Boomer generation, however, said 85 percent could cook a roast and 45 percent could bake a cake.

Is Housework The New Porn?

OK, fess up: how many of you think it’s sexy when your partner does housework? Yeah, me neither. I mean, I appreciate it, for sure. But does it get me hot and bothered when my husband runs a vacuum over the living room rug or does a couple loads of laundry? No, not really. But according to a new study of 6,877 married couples, there’s a strong link for both women and men between watching their spouses do housework and getting turned on. One explanation for the correlation is that “housework may be a proxy for a general willingness to invest in shared interests, a symbol of commitment to home and hearth.” I’ve only been married for three months, so what the hell do I know, but good God, shoot me now if there’s a day in my future when “shared interests” refers to sparkling kitchen floors and freshly scrubbed toilet bowls. Commercials Make Men Less Likely To Clean

How often do you see a commercial for laundry detergent that depicts a father dealing with his son or daughter’s grass-stained clothes? By my calculations, you never do. And this isn’t helping get guys to do laundry or other household chores that are traditionally considered “women’s work.” Men are particularly influenced by the way TV commercials portray them, and 34 percent of them presented them engaged in work behavior, while just 2 percent showed them performing domestic tasks. Women, on the other hand, are least likely to be portrayed working outside the home — only 13.1 percent showed them this way, and 51.5 percent of commercials featuring women focused on selling home products, such as food and cleaners. It’s true that company’s do this for a reason. Women are still the ones buying most of these products. I’m hoping that as people get married later in life, men will start getting used to buying 409 and Clorox wipes and keep doing it when they get married. But then again, I’ve seen my guy friends’ apartments. They may own cleaning products, but they have yet to put them to use. [Newswise] Keep reading »
