Gross: Japanese Portable Ashtray For Women

If you smoke, you already have to deal with smelling like an ashtray, so we’re not sure why anyone would actually want to carry around one—in their purse no less! Cigarette Box Wraps Go After Teen Market

Watchdogs have gotten riled up about Joe Camel’s appeal to children and teens in the past, but soon they could have SmokeStixx on their hit list. This website sells customizable cigarette box wraps that let people play dress-up with their ciggys. Isn’t that fun! Here’s SmokeStixx’s rationale behind this unnecessary product:

“Cigarette consumers no longer need to feel ashamed about buying cigarettes. SmokeStixx decals dramatically transform the appearance of cigarette boxes into fashion forward accessories. With new motifs launching every month, cigarette consumers can constantly stay ahead of the pack.”

I’m calling BS. With designs like a pink tiara, flaming skull, and psychedelic disco lights on the decals, we all know exactly who would want this product — teens, who can totally afford the 99 cents price. [SmokeStixx via Trend de la Creme] Keep reading »

Obama’s War On Cancer Sticks

Obama may puff on a cigarette every now and then, but that doesn’t mean he thinks it’s okay for you to do it. On Monday, he signed a bill that will seriously regulate cancer sticks. Under this bill, the Food and Drug Administration gets to rule over tobacco companies with an iron fist. By January, cigarette companies will have to register with the FDA and offer up a list of the ingredients in everything they’re making. The president of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids called this “the strongest action the federal government has ever taken to reduce tobacco use.” [USA Today] Keep reading »

Smoking And Lamaze: A Popular Combination

You’d think that all of the studies about the effects of drinking, smoking, and doing drugs while pregnant would make women cease partying for nine months at the very least. Who wants their child to be born with fetal alcohol syndrome or a heroin addiction? Well, apparently some women are okay with taking the risk. A University of Washington study found that 77 percent of women cigarette smokers and 50 percent of women marijuana smokers used those substances at some time during their pregnancy. Part of the problem is that men’s levels of drinking, smoking, and marijuana use remain stable before, during, and after pregnancy. So, when the aromatic smell of pot is in the air, you forget that you’re with child? [Newswise] Keep reading »
