The suburbs of Minneapolis are a land of quiet cul-de-sacs, hot dish potlucks, and mostly conservative politics, but in light of a new amendment that seeks to add a gay marriage ban to the Minnesota constitution, these neighborhoods have become something a bit more unexpected: a sea of rainbow flags. And who’s leading the charge? Church ladies, of course!

As soon as the State Legislature voted to include this despicable amendment on the November ballot, Gwin Pratt, a senior pastor at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, sprang into action, brainstorming ways to fight it. “Adult” and “sex ed” are three words that sound terrible together at first glance. But lo and behold, O: The Oprah Magazine sat in on an adult sex ed class full of 40- to 60-somethings at the First Unitarian Church in Austin, TX, and one thing is for certain: bumbling teens aren’t the only ones with questions!

Unitarians are smart for realizing that learning about one’s sexuality is a lifelong pursuit. How to properly put on a condom and what to do about queefing preoccupy the young pups. New parents, an infertile couple, women who lost her breasts to mastectomies, and other grownups now realize that 45-minute lecture from the gym coach back in 10th grade left something to be desired! Gay Marriage & Christianity: Not Always At Odds!

Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi just tied the knot last weekend officially making gay marriage trendhunter worthy. But according to Professor John Boswell, the former chairman of the history department at Yale University, gay marriage is an old-fashioned institution getting a new page in the history books. The Ivy League teacher has done extensive research on homosexuality throughout the ages and discovered that early Christians, including the Pope, were so cool with same-sex committed relationships, they even adorned their churches with frescoes of sweet man love. A painting found at St. Catherine’s Monastery in Mt. Sinai, Israel, depicts two early Christian Saints, St. Sergius and St. Bacchus, getting married back in the 4th Century, with Jesus as the best man. Accounts of their sainthood, up through the 10th Century New Testament, openly united and acknowledged them as “lovers.” But they’re just the tip of the gay Christian iceberg! Keep reading »

The Church of England just wrote another bible and this one is all about S-E-X. With 150,000 thousand divorces a year and even one of their own Bishop’s 25-year marriage breaking up, the Church decided to author a how-to guide about the “holy and wonderful” thing that takes two (at least). The book, entitled “Growing Together” offers advice for married couples on everything from turn-ons to sexy money issues. It also has saucy true stories! The Bishop of Croydon said, “There’s an assumption that church people are from a different planet. We’re not. We live in the real world and are trying to help people talk about things that often don’t get talked about.” It’s official, everyone loves to talk dirty and for about $15, you can hear what the Anglican Church has to say.   • A church in Jacksonville, FL, is using super sexy billboards to attract people to its series of sermons on sex in Christian life. “[God] wants us to have great sex, but he wants us to have it in his parameters,” the church’s pastor said.
