I actually love Christmas music — I agree it’s weird, but it’s my thing — but after three weeks, even I am tiring of “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”And just in time for the holiday, we’ve got some new Christmas tunes to listen to … from Kanye West? Well, sort of. Sketch group Local Business Comedy re-recorded Kanye’s entire Yeezus album, but with holiday-themed lyrics, and put the whole thing up on Soundcloud. The results are ridiculous, bizarrely wonderful and the perfect thing to put on the stereo if your family is just standing around awkwardly making chit chat while the Christmas ham bakes. “We love Kanye and thought it’d be funny if he woke up one day and was like, ‘I am Santa Claus,’” Stephen of LBC told Refinery 29. “Then weeks and weeks of writing and recording and mixing later, we had this album and it’s still cracking us up. We’re just glad other people like it.” [Soundcloud via Refinery 29]
I’ve been listening to Christmas music pretty much exclusively since a few days before Thanksgiving. Yes, I am that person, and I’m not ashamed. I love all Christmas music (literally ALL OF IT), but there are 7 songs that I listen to on repeat pretty much every day, and somehow I never, ever get sick of them. Here they are, in no particular order: Keep reading »
The key to making a good holiday mix is to not overdo it. You’ve got to include tons of holiday tracks, yes, but you should also add some non-Christmas-y stuff, too. Otherwise your mix will start to sound like the tacky Christmas music loop you hear in Macy’s or something. Plus, you’ve gotta mix some non-traditional Christmas hits with Mariah Carey, too. Check out our XXXMas list after the jump!

Come the holiday season, I’m all abuzz with warm, fuzzy feelings. The world is all aglitter with Christmas lights, hot cocoa and cider sit warm in my belly, dogs wear absurd sweaters, and I can’t stop smiling. I practically piss eggnog. From the day after Thanksgiving through Boxing Day, I delve into a playlist of about 120 Christmas songs—and counting. That’s roughly six and a half hours of music. I have five recordings of “Jingle Bells” alone. There’s no cure for my holiday hysteria (and if there were, I’m certain it’d be shaped like a tiny candy cane). Keep reading »
Mariah Carey and Justin Bieber‘s “All I Want For Christmas” duet debuted last night during the Christmas tree lighting at Rockefeller Center. The best I can say about it is “feel good Christmas music” with a questionably appropriate music video.
Now, Mariah Carey is Mariah Carey. High notes and shaking her spray-tanned booty is what she’s about. It is the way of the world. I think her short-short-short Santa outfit in her “All I Want For Christmas” music video with Justin Bieber pushes the line of good taste. But hey, this is a grown woman obsessed with rainbows, stuffed animals and butterflies that we’re talking about.
No, my discomfort with the “All I Want For Christmas” music video is the flirtation between Mariah and Justin Bieber. Keep reading »
Nobody turns out a beloved Christmas track quite like Ru! Here she is, back in the ’90s, glamming up “Little Drummer Boy.” Love the white gown and matching fur muff. Wait, what did you think I was talking about in the headline? Work it, girl! Keep reading »
