Here’s A Gratuitous Christina Hendricks Photo!

You know, every day we should have gratuitous Christina Hendricks photos! Alas, it is not every day photographer Terry Richardson posts pics of Christina in his studio on his blog. Here’s another one, just ’cause we love you. [Terry's Diary] Keep reading »

Quotable: Christina Hendricks Bored With Focus On Her Body

“It kind of hurt my feelings at first. Anytime someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then all anyone was talking about was my body! It might sound silly, but I didn’t realize I was so different. I was just oblivious. Sometimes I would go on an audition and someone would say something like, ‘Girl, you’re refreshing!’ That was it.”

—Christina Hendricks talks to New York magazine about the obsession over her body despite her considerable other talents. Keep reading »

Quotable: Christina Hendricks’ Hubby Has Got Her Back

“I was just upset about the whole Golden Globes dress thing. I thought she looked so gorgeous. And that New York Times blogger saying that … It’s so ridiculous. … What was nice was seeing the entire internet come after that blogger. That was really cool. It was the first time I saw just a solid block of ‘You’re crazy! What’s wrong with you? You should be ashamed of yourself!’ And honestly, the Grey Lady should be ashamed of themselves to print a picture like that, that they widened! … Honestly, she’s the greatest woman I know. She’s the most beautiful woman I know. She’s the most talented woman I know. It’s like there’s not enough adjectives that could express or superlatives that could express how wonderful she is.”

– Geoffrey Arend, the super awesome husband of “Mad Men”‘s super awesome goddess Christina Hendricks, whose Golden Globes dress (and figure) was criticized by New York Times’ columnist Cathy Horyn [People StyleWatch] Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Meghan McCain Makes A Good Point About Boobs

  • Meghan McCain asks a really good question about boobs in her latest Daily Beast column: Why is it that Heidi Montag lands on the cover of People after her boob job, but more natural (we think) women like Jessica Simpson and Christina Hendricks are criticized for looking “big” when they flaunt their assets? Two points for coining the term “boob police,” Meghan. [The Daily Beast]
  • The Menifee Union School District in California pulled the Merriam-Webster’s 10th edition dictionary off the shelves because they contained the definition for “oral sex.” The school board will decide whether they’ll return the dictionaries to the classrooms. [L.A. Times]
  • Hooray for lady news anchors! Ratings for ABC’s “World News” have spiked eight percent since Diane Sawyer took the helm last month. [L.A. Times]

The New York Times Distorts Image Of Christina Hendricks, Calls Her “Big”

The other day, we posted a poll on the best-dressed women at the Golden Globes. For those of you who haven’t checked it, Christina Hendricks, the redheaded siren of “Mad Men,” who dressed in a peach-colored Christian Siriano gown, is far and away the winner with over 22 percent of the votes. Cathy Horyn, a style blogger at the Times, however, disagreed with our poll’s results, going so far as to quote a stylist who said, “You don’t put a big girl in a big dress. That’s rule number one.” And seemingly to drive home the point of just how terribly big Hendricks really is, the Times ran an altered photo of her (left image) making her appear broader than normal. Can Redheads Rock Red Lips?

Check out Christina Hendricks and Nicole Kidman, two of Hollywood’s more famous redheads. Now, look at their red, red lips. What do you think; do the red lip shades they choose work with their red hair? The jury is still out for me on Christina. (What do you think? Does it work?) But I think Nicole nailed this particular redhead/red-lipstick moment. I’m sure you’ve heard at some point the old idea that redheads can’t wear red anything (lipstick, dresses, etc.), but it’s actually total crap. What does apply to red lips and red hair is also the same rule that goes for wearing makeup of any kind, across the board—you have to take into consideration your skin tone, hair color and feature shapes. How does Nicole get her red lip so right? Keep reading »

Joan Holloway Mixes Up Drinks With Martha

Oh, I’m swooning. Christina Hendricks from “Mad Men” shook up some cocktails with Martha Stewart this morning and she’s so lovely it should be a crime. Girlfriend is glowing with happiness after her recent marriage and even handled Martha’s weird comments, like how Christina looks older on TV, with Joan Holloway-style grace. Also, her new husband proposed with a chandelier! Keep reading »

(Another) Quote of the Day: Joan Holloway Inspired By “Sex And The Single Girl”

“I read Sex and the Single Girl and Sex and the Office before [both written by former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief, Helen Gurley Brown, in 1962 and 1965, respectively] — not before the pilot, because I didn’t know about it at that point — but after the pilot, and before we started season one. They were huge inspirations. I started turning down pages of things that I thought would be useful or relevant, and then I realized every single page was turned down. [Laughs] Tons of great tidbits that, you know, even if no one else catches them or something, that I’m thinking of. … Like the way you prepare your desk. Making sure there are little candies out because that’s enticing. Making sure that your slip shows just a tiny, tiny bit when you’re sitting down because that’s alluring.”

— Christina Hendricks, the actress who plays Joan Holloway on “Mad Men,” on where she gathered inspiration for the role. Read more of her thoughts on Joan in a great interview with New York magazine’s Vulture blog. Keep reading »

Joan Holloway Doesn’t Need Weight Watchers

I’ve written here before about how Joan Holloway makes me feel better about myself. With her flame hair, pale skin and curvy figure, she and I could be sisters. It’s been a real boost to my confidence to see someone who looks like me get so much positive attention for her appearance. It’s been especially gratifying to watch Christina Hendricks, the actress who plays Joan, really own her curves in an industry that preys on insecurities and exploits anything that differs from the norm (in this case, stick-thin figures). So I was a little confused when I read an article in the Daily Mail this morning that accuses Hendricks of succumbing to pressures of the “body fascists” by losing weight. As proof of her drastic weight loss, the paper presents a photo of Hendricks taken at last week’s Emmy Awards where she looks, to me, just as curvy and lovely as ever. “She’d lost weight from her face, arms and bottom,” Hendricks’ weight-watcher accuses, “and her glorious hourglass shape had changed into something dangerously close to the typical Hollywood lolly-stick with breasts.” Wha?? Was the author seeing the same photo that I am? If Hendricks is “dangerously close to typical Hollywood,” then I’m lunching at the Ivy and giving crotch-shots to the paparazzi swarming outside my limo. Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: Christina Hendricks Likes Being Bad

“Drinking and smoking and having sex with other people’s wives and all those things—they are bad, bad behaviors. But it’s all done with fabulous clothes and lighting and excellent music, and that makes for a really sexy show. Being bad is sexy.”

Christina Hendricks explains the sex appeal of her hit show, “Mad Men,” which starts its third season this Sunday. [NY Mag] Keep reading »
