Fresh off of a suicide attempt, Alexa Ray Joel plans to find her own way by following in her mother’s footsteps … like exactly. It was recently announced that Alexa will be the new face … er … hair of Prell shampoo just like her supermodel mother Christie Brinkley was in the 80’s. OMG! I so forgot about Prell “the bodybuilding system for hair.” (Check out one of Brinkley’s commercials, above!) I don’t think I’ve bought a bottle since 1987 or so. I guess Alexa did inherit her mother’s luscious locks. Let’s hope that she can make Prell (and herself) cool again. When songstress Alexa Ray Joel landed in the hospital after trying to OD on a handful of homeopathic pain pills in her NYC apartment, our hearts went out to her. Joel, 24, was apparently distraught over her breakup with band mate Jimmy Riot, 38, and swallowed the pills in a “cry for attention.” And no matter how famous your parents are—in Alexa’s case, Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley—breakups always make you feel like s**t. The good news is Joel is finding positive ways to work through her issues: She’s writing songs and she told New York Daily News she is at work on a project to teach “young girls with something I feel I know a great deal about: heartbreak-related depression.” Wait—what? Don’t nearly all breakups cause “heartbreak-related depression,” especially if you’re on the being-dumped side of things?

Twiggy has just been tapped to be the face of Oil of Olay, again. Back in 1985 she was the star of their commercials and now she’ll be bringing the glamor back for their Definity ad campaign. Of her new gig the model said, “I am delighted to be fronting the new advertising campaign because as a women who is nearly 60, I am a strong believer in using trusted brands like Olay, that are clinically proven to meet the needs of more mature skin.”

It’s nice to see a familiar face, not to mention an adult one.  In an age where models seem to be getting younger and younger, Twiggy is part of a trend of talented women breaking through the ageist industry and proving they’re as sexy and as valued as ever! And these confident supermodels, who are not teenagers anymore, are beating the odds of a highly critical, looks based business. Thanks to the women in this slideshow, true beauty is something we all can achieve at every age.

Christie Brinkley’s all-American style isn’t something we’d ever copy, but that hasn’t stopped us from coveting this ring from her line with Ross-Simons. The turquoise petals are so bright and cheerful, and the amethysts remind us of lilacs. We’d wear this ring with a simple dress or jeans and a white T-shirt so it would be the eye-catcher of the outfit. Few people would repeat [Michael Jackson’s pajama-clad court appearance faux pas, but many overlook the less obvious style no-no’s in a courtroom. Whether you’re in the jury box, testifying, or, heaven forbid, the defendant, there are certain rules everyone should follow in front of the (fashion) judge.

African-American women may spend almost eight billion dollars a year on beauty products and cosmetics but they still can’t get no satisfaction. That’s what a new study by Essence magazine revealed. During a breakfast conference at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York this week, a panel, which included Essence’s beauty editor Mikki Taylor and legendary makeup artist Same Fine, discussed the findings.

A few months ago, I wrote about an article in New York magazine, in which the author, Philip Weiss, tried to explain why men cheat—the basis of his argument was that people, especially men, are not meant, biologically, to be monogamous and that men who cheat are just fulfilling their perfectly natural urges. Boo-frickin’-hoo, I said then, and reminded that if men who got married never promised to be monogamous, they wouldn’t have to cheat. Well, unfortunately, Weiss is not alone in making a career out of explaining and justifying cheating—Gary Neuman, a recent “Oprah” guest, has a theory of his own and has written a book on the subject, called “The Truth About Cheating”. He believes men cheat because they’re experiencing loneliness in their relationship or marriage, they’re seeking affirmation from other women, and are not getting enough attention at home. In other words, it’s your fault ladies! And Oprah isn’t the only person giving this guy credence—Christie Brinkley ex Peter Cook, who cheated on her with his 18-year-old assistant, has taken a page straight out of the Neuman playbook and blames Brinkley for driving him to cheat.
