Style Buzz: Lacroix On Stage And Teens Desperately Seeking Fashion Week

  • Two Vermont teens hacked into BPCM PR’s database to add themselves to Fashion Week invite lists. Oh, and one of them is the daughter of Vermont State Senate President Peter Shumlin. Oops. [Fashionably Independent]
  • Style.com’s Joe Connors is none-too-pleased with the military medal-inspired Fashion Week invites sent out by menswear label Commonwealth Utilities. “These decorations stand for something. And it’s not a seat assignment,” he says. Agree or think he’s overreacting? [The Cut]

Christian Lacroix’s Next Step—Uniforms?

Things are not looking good for French couturier Christian Lacroix, whose fashion house has failed to find a buyer to rescue it from bankruptcy. At least the designer is doing some extra work to keep his head afloat, scoring a gig to design uniforms for French railway employees. Lacroix has put them in purple bow blouses, boxy suits, and berets. While it might be cool to be able to go to work everyday wearing a Lacroix item, we’re not too sure the workers wearing these outfits would be so pleased with the Disneyland-chic flamboyancy of them.

If Lacroix has decided to save his brand by selling out and bringing “fashion to the masses,” we wish he’d consider doing a bridge line with the obvious retailer, Target. (We could use some more French style in America, don’t you think?) Monsieur Lacroix, we believe your people pronounce it Tar-jey. [NY Mag] Keep reading »

Christian Lacroix’s Failing Label May Be Saved!

Christian Lacroix has been so badly in the red as of late that he was given until the end of this month to find an investor to save his company or else he’d face liquidation. With a few days to go until August, it looks like Lacroix may be saved yet. Bernard Krief Consulting, a French firm that specializes in buying and saving failing companies, plans to put in a bid for the Lacroix label this Monday. Keep reading »

Style Buzz: Top Models On the Cheap

  • Models walked for 50 euros instead of their usual 1,300 or more fee at the Christian Lacroix couture show. A rather sweet show of solidarity with the struggling designer, don’t you think? [Imaginary Socialite]
  • Lindsay Lohan and Christina Aguilera are slotted for cameo spots on upcoming episodes of “Project Runway.” This totally makes sense given how classy and fashionable those two always are. [The Mirror]

Quickies!: Phil Spector Sentenced To 19 Years To Life

  • Music producer Phil Spector has been sentenced to 19 years to life in prison, after murdering model/actress Lana Clarkson. [E! Online] — Spector’s 27-year-old porn star wife says she will dedicate herself to proving his innocence. Good luck to her.
  • During a visit to on-again, off-again girlfriend Sam Ronson’s house, Lindsay Lohan’s loaned Maserati was towed.[TMZ] — At least she wasn’t drunk driving it, as usual.
  • Angelina suffered a minor injury while performing a stunt on the set of her upcoming film, “Salt.” [LA Times]
  • Britney Spears is being sued by Rick Mendoza, a photog she ran over in 2007. [TMZ]

    Quick Pic: Matching Hair

At today’s Christian Lacroix Haute Couture show in Paris, models wore polka dots, lots of tulle, and braided buns. In an interesting twist, their hair coordinated with their outfits. Now, my older sister painted her nails every single night for a year so they would coordinate with the next day’s outfit, and that was a lot of work. The hair coordinating would be at least 10 times more difficult, unless you wore the same color every day, of course. Keep reading »

    Slideshow: Paris Fashion Week

This is the week when all the crazy Euro designers unveil their couture collections in Paris. Ninety-percent of the stuff that walks down the runway isn’t wearable by any, you know, normal person, but the garments are still pretty to look at. After the jump, the 10 looks that caught our eye and made us say, “Wow, that designer probably did some serious magic mushrooms back in the day.” Keep reading »

Spring Trend We Can Get Behind: Full Skirts

There’s one thing Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton, Christian LaCroix, and Alexander McQueen agree on for spring: fabulous full skirts. While high-waisted jeans may still cause us to cringe at the mom factor, high-waisted skirts can make any woman look like a pin-up girl. Since the feminine silhouette of the skirt naturally blossoms at the bottom, it accentuates your waist and can even create one for boyishly figured types. It’s not magic, it’s just plain old-fashioned fashion. Five we really love, after the jump…
