Christian Siriano Has Grim Thoughts On Casting Plus-Size Models In Fashion Shows

“People say that designers don’t design for ‘real women,’ and I hate that. Why wouldn’t every designer want as many customers as possible? I think [the reality of casting plus-size fashion models] is one of the the hardest things about this part of the industry. When we show samples, we’re making a model. Like any architect would make a model, any chef would make a tasting before they make the meal — that’s what the pieces on the runway are. We only make one for the first time ever. It’s not that I don’t want to make it in every size right away, but it has to work first.”

Designer Christian Siriano talked to The Huffington Post about how frequently people misunderstand the use of thin models in the fashion industry. I get what he’s saying, but I also don’t understand why those samples he’s talking about can’t be at least a few sizes bigger. His response seems like an evasive answer to the very real body image issues the industry has sparked in its consumers. [Huffington Post] [Photo: Fame/Flynet]

NYFW Fall 2014: Christian Siriano, Monique Lhuillier, Tibi, Rebecca Taylor & More!

It’s that time of year again! That is, time for the the human clothing hangers better known as models to strut down the catwalks of Lincoln Center in beautiful, expensive and sometimes absurd designer clothing, for the Fall 2014 runway shows. Each day, we’ll present to you a selection of noteworthy shows so that, even if you can’t ultimately afford what you see (uh, we can’t), you’ll be up to date on the coming trends. Or at least have plenty of outfits, makeup and hair looks to drool over and/or laugh at. Keep reading »

More From Days 3 & 4 Of NYFW (In GIFs!)

Rachel Roy NYFW

Rachel Roy shocked us with one of our favorite shows of NYFW so far. The collection embodies a downtown coolness without being overtly chilly or overly pretentious. In short, we wish we could wear it all, but alas! It’s not in the budget, and instead, we’ll admire from afar. Roy was in good company, too. There were great collections from Alexander Wang, Christian Siriano, Suno and Derek Lam — and you can check ‘em all out after the jump! And don’t forget to tell us who you love, in the comments.  Keep reading »

Time to give credit where credit is due: while the rest of New York City hid indoors during Blizzard Nemo, the fashion industry went forward with Fashion Week as planned. Let’s see what designers Christian Siriano, Mara Hoffman, Jason Wu, Jill Stuart, rag & bone, and Rebecca Minkoff sent down the runway for Fall 2013. Keep reading »

Shopping Guide: 8 Nude Dresses With Pops Of Color

I’ve typically shied away from wearing nude tones, but I’m super into this new trend of mixing nudes with neons and brights. Designers like Christian Siriano did it on the runway for spring, and it seems like a great way to tone down what could be too much color. Pairing a nude shirt with a bold skirt is a great way to get more use out of both pieces. And if you’re dying to wear the trend right now, we’ve got eight dresses that perfectly combine nude tons with pops of bright color.

Style Stealer: Christian Siriano’s Chartreuse Runway Look

“Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano’s Spring 2012 collection was all about balancing bright colors with soft, neutral palettes (Jill Stuart did a similar thing). We love the unexpected color combinations, and did our best to recreate Siriano’s style. Take a look after the jump. Keep reading »

Christian Siriano Sends Latest Payless Shoes Down The Runway

Oooh, la-la! “Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano sent his latest collection down the runway at New York Fashion Week, and his flowing looks were coupled with his newest footwear designs for Payless Shoes. They’re pretty hot — from the sculpted wooden heels to the red octopus straps — although, some of them do look a bit … familiar. (A previous collection seemed “inspired” by Alexander McQueen’s heels.) What we want to know is what they look like when they end up on the Payless shelves. After the downgrade, will we still love them? Guess we’ll have to wait to find out. [The Cut] Keep reading »

Christian Siriano Cleans Up With O-Cel-O Sponge Deal

Payless we get. Starbucks is stretching it. But talk about random: Christian Siriano‘s latest marketing partnership is with O-Cel-O, the iconic makers of sponges. (The cleaning aids not the birth control method.) The “Project Runway” winner and brand whore is apparently working with the cleaning products company to “give the everyday scrub sponge a fierce makeover.” We’re not sure what this means. Some new scrub feature that resembles Siriano’s signature hair style? Burberry-inspired prints? Sponges that double as clutch purses? Keep reading »
