You know what? I know that everyone and their mom is going to hate on the movie version of “He’s Just Not That Into You.” Maybe there was a reason to hate on the book — I don’t know, I didn’t read it — but this movie looks funny. For starters, I love Ginnifer Goodwin; I also have been known to stare at a cell phone for over an hour, willing it to ring (with a call from a guy I totally love); I also have spent many, many years making crap excuses for bad boy behavior because I just didn’t want to recognize that maybe he was either A) a douche or B) a perfectly fine who was just not that into me. Am I betraying women everywhere for admitting to that? I don’t think so. Women love movies. Dudes love movies too. Unfortunately, women and men don’t always love the same movies — that’s why we once vetoed a dude because he couldn’t see the cinematic power of Fear. When you’ve got a boyfriend or even when you’re just going on a date with someone new, going to the cinema necessitates negotiation. You want emotions and romance and hot guys, he wants explosions, and blood, and protruding limbs. You want Reese Witherspoon, he wants Bruce Willis. 27 Dresses sounds awesome, 28 Days Later not so much.

Without question, Say Anything, Sixteen Candles and Pretty in Pink were my earliest primers on love, dating and relationships. With the help of these flicks, I learned that hot chicks could be both wicked smart and nice (Say Anything), that all blonde, popular girls were bitches who eventually got their comeuppance when they were dumped/passed over by the hot guy for the interesting, quirky girl (Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink) and, of course, that slightly loner-ish dudes (Say Anything’s God-like Lloyd Dobler) made way better boyfriends than meathead football studs (with the exception of Sixteen Candles’ Jake Ryan, however).

Video Games: Chick Flicks Get Played

The triumvirate of teen queen movies: Pretty In Pink, Mean Girls, and Clueless — are all getting remade into Broadway musicals. Sike! Although we’re sure some of the score will be watered down into electronic bleeps, they’re actually turning the dramas into full on games. Paramount Pictures, who owns all the movies, is creating digital downloads and low-cost “casual” ones for consoles like Wii, Playstation, and eventually Nintendo DS. Female Ensemble Movies: The Frisky’s Top Five

You might think the trailer for the movie The Women makes the movie look lame, and it very well could be, but did you know the movie is a remake of a 1939 classic starring Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Rosalind Russell, Paulette Goddard, Joan Fontaine, Marjorie Main, Butterfly McQueen, Hedda Hopper, and more? Well, both movies are part of the “female ensemble movie” genre, according to a Variety article, and this differs from the “woman’s film” or “chick flick” genre in that there are more than three female leads. See, there are girl movies, and then there are movies with lots of girls in them.
