Isn’t it nice to see Keira Knightley’s pretty face adorning multiple magazine covers rather than someone like, say, Kim Kardashian? I jest, kind of, and I do know a few people who maintain that Keira is only marginally more talented than the reality star in question … but regardless, she’s definitely more likable. I’ll be honest, my affinity may have less to do with Keira’s abilities as an actress and way more to do with the fact that there was a time in my life wherein I, like, so totally wanted to be Elizabeth Swann. Men Hate Women Who ... Read? Reap? Weep?

In the vast, ever-evolving cosmos of luxury makeup, Chanel unfailingly offers some of the very best — and they come with gorgeous artsy videos, to boot. The brand has been teasing us with short promotional flicks advertising their upcoming Rouge Allure reformulation for some time, and what this new video lacks in the hypnotic factor of the one that came out in July, it makes up for in quirky charm. The minute-long film is a homage to Erwin Blumenfeld, a Dadaist photographer responsible for a number of memorable Vogue covers back in the ’30s and ’40s. The new lipstick shades are to die for (and, for a Chanel makeup hoarder like me, an absolute must-have) and the video is just as alluring (heh) as its namesake, but the voiceover bit towards the end is a touch questionable. “Men hate women who …,” what? You’ll just have to listen for yourself. [Fashionista]

And just when you thought you had heard the last from me regarding Choupette Lagerfeld, you were so woefully wrong! Allow me to explain myself: cat love is my number one interest and priority above all other things, and I also really adore the kooky Chanel designer‘s flippantly offensive attitude, despite my awareness of the fact that if we did so happen to cross paths he would probably just write me off as having a “bad face,” as in the case of one Pippa Middleton, or “fat,” as in the case of everyone else ever. I wouldn’t even care, man, so long as he would let me smooch his darling cat right on the nose. Keep reading »

Choupette is suspiciously absent...

Well, that was quick! A little over a month ago, my personal Jesus, Karl Lagerfeld, announced plans to consummate the love that we’ve always known existed between him and Japanese beauty brand Shu Uemura. Karl’s been known to use Shu products in an unorthodox way: rather than sketch out his sublime designs for Chanel in pencil or pen, Karl prefers to draw with Shu products for their endless array of vivid colors. The man behind the international makeup mecca, who was a personal friend of Lagerfeld, passed away in 2007, and that ended the brand’s retail in the States. Which is yet another reason to skip the store and take to the Internet for your makeup needs (particularly, the Shu Uemura e-store). Karl Lagerfeld partnered with Shu Uemura to create his limited-edition “Noël 2012″ line, and in light of the fated partnership, Karl appropriately synthesized “Japanese pop with European chic” to birth Mon Shu Girl, the adorable cartoon character he’s chosen as the face of his cosmetics debut. She’s no Choupette, of course, but we’ll take her! [Racked]

Choupette Lagerfeld is my literal spirit animal in that she is, in fact, an animal, and also happens to really speak to my spirit, so there you have it. Just when I thought the gloriousness quotient of Karl’s legendary Siamese had finally been capped due to overload, what with recent reports of a photoshoot and eponymous purse, I could not have been more wrong. It turns out that the influence of le chaton on the Kaiser’s design sense does not only not draw the line at soft, fluffy bags, but an entire collection Karl kreated for Chanel was inspired by Choupette’s eyes. And who spilled the beans on the true blue roots of the Spring/Summer 2012 couture collection but Karl’s friend and neighbor Diane Kruger? One more for my extensive list of reasons why I would beyond happily trade lives with the German actress (we’ll call it #2, before Joshua Jackson and after the fact that she is one of the most beautiful people alive): she… has touched… Choupette. Even though she was probably made to wear white silk gloves whilst doing so. [Fashionista]

Watch the dreamy Rouge Allure ad...

While there are many things definitively Chanel that I don’t exactly promote — tweed, for instance — I almost always agree with Peter Philips. The global creative director of Chanel Makeup since 2008, Philips is responsible for crazy-coveted Le Vernis nail lacquer shades like Particulière, which sparked the frenzy for taupe-grey (or “greige”) polish back in 2010, and the birth of the Rouge Coco lipstick range. He’s a visionary of sorts (see: bedazzled brows on the runway last season) who can put an elegant, luxurious spin on pretty much anything (see also: temporary tattoos). But just in case you need a little more proof that Philips is, indeed, a bonafide beauty genius, his new short film will make up your mind once and for all. “Miroir, Miroir,” inspired by the Paris-Bombay show Karl Lagerfeld sent down the promenade in December, serves to introduce five new shades of Chanel lipstick in the most gorgeously hallucinatory way possible. Philips said of the video, “The concept complemented the shades and the hypnotizing, psychedelic aspect fit well with the Indian theme.” Are you tripping yet? [BellaSugar]
