A Michael Jackson Perfume And Cologne?!?! No!

I have never had a desire to smell like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, or Mariah Carey—so I know I am not the target market for celebrity perfumes. Celebrity colognes make even less sense to me—I just can’t imagine wanting to smell like George Clooney, Tim McGraw, or Antonio Banderas. Apparently, I don’t know what I am talking about because these things sell like hotcakes. Still, there is one new scent in the works that I don’t think will get such a nice reception on the market: a Michael Jackson scent.

Amy Winehouse: Did Alcohol Withdrawal Kill Her?

As Amy Winehouse‘s album Back to Black climbs back onto the charts and whispers begin about a treasure trove of unreleased songs, Winehouse’s family has a hunch about what we might find in her toxicology report—that she died from alcohol withdrawal. They believe that laying off the alcohol cold turkey may be what caused Winehouse’s sudden death last weekend at age 27. A source close to the family explains, “[Amy's father Mitch] said doctors had told Amy to gradually reduce her intake of alcohol and to avoid bingeing at all costs. Amy told him she couldn’t do that. It was all or nothing and she gave up completely. Mitch said the shock of giving up, after everything she had been through over a bad few years, was just too much for her to take. Abstinence gave her body such a fright, they thought it was eventually the cause of her death.”

Reactions To Ryan Dunn’s Death

Yesterday was a very sad day for “Jackass” fans. Ryan Dunn, one of the stars of the show and movies, was killed in a car crash when his Porsche skidded off the road and over a guardrail just outside Philadelphia. Shortly before the accident, Dunn had Tweeted a photo of himself and two friends—one of whom also died in the wreck—at a bar. It’s unclear whether they had one or two drinks, or if alcohol consumption was the cause of the crash. (Dunn did receive a DUI in 2005 after crashing his car just a few miles away, though completed an alcohol education course designed for first-time DUI offenders.)

At Elizabeth Taylor‘s funeral yesterday, the proceedings began exactly 15 minutes late. On purpose—this was one of Elizabeth’s final requests. “She even wanted to be late for her own funeral,” a spokesperson explained. Considering her renown, the ceremony was small and limited to friends and family. Apparently, Colin Farrell gave a reading. Then Elizabeth was buried in the Great Mausoleum, near her buddy Michael Jackson. Keep reading »

Very sad news out of Hollywood this morning. Legendary actress and humanitarian, Elizabeth Taylor, has died at the age of 79. Best known for her roles in movies like “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” “BUtterfield 8,” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, Taylor also spent the last 30 years of her life raising money to find a cure for HIV/AIDS. She was hospitalized six weeks ago for congestive heart failure and passed away in the early morning hours in Los Angeles. R.I.P. Liz! [CNN] Keep reading »

Sad News Out Of The LBC: Rapper Nate Dogg Dead At Age 41

Rapper Nate Dogg, who is best known for his smooth-voiced collaborations with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and, above, Warren G, died yesterday after a battling health problems for a number of years. He was 41. Nate Dogg — born Nathan D. Hale — suffered from two strokes in the last few years, though it’s not clear what his actual cause of death was. R.I.P. Sad face. Leslie “Don’t Call Me Shirley” Nielsen died this weekend from complications from pneumonia. Apparently, Nielsen was a science-fiction movie actor before he discovered his comedy genius in the classic “Airplane!” and went on to make spoof flicks like the “Naked Gun” and “Police Squad!” Sigh. Those movies are totally what I watch when I’m feeling depressed—the humor is so silly and deadpan, it’s impossible not to laugh. We’ll miss you, Leslie. [EW] Keep reading »

Rich Cronin, Frontman Of LFO, Is Dead At 35

You may not know Rich Cronin, the frontman of the late ’90s group LFO, by name—he never hit it as big as some of his fellow boy banders. But if you watch the video for LFO’s biggest hit, “Summer Girls,” you will quickly recognize him as the one who likes girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch. I’m sad to report that Rich died yesterday—he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005 and had a related stroke this week. Sad! Keep reading »
