I’ve been counting down the days until “The Great Gatsby” hits theaters for the past, like, year and a half. Now that we’re getting down to the wire (one week!), I couldn’t possibly be more excited. Baz Luhrmann’s brand-new adaptation is already polarizing and nobody has even seen it yet, but if there’s one component that guarantees the film will be worth seeing, it’s the cast. There doesn’t exist a more perfect Gatsby in the world than Leonardo DiCaprio, and Carey Mulligan has the physical likeness of the iconic Daisy Buchanan down to a science. I’m a little concerned that Carey herself is too intelligent to convincingly play the “beautiful little fool” that is Daisy — but we’ll see.
So! Now that Carey is about to be everywhere promoting the flick, we’re paying extra-special attention to her sartorial pursuits. We already saw her looking gorgeous in red at the “Gatsby” New York premiere, but what about these past looks? They’re all very different, and Carey’s ability to pull off a variety of different styles and interesting shapes is crazy admirable … but which is your favorite? Get a closer look and vote after the jump! Keep reading »
Here we have Elizabeth Banks modeling the perfect outfit for spring weekends: comfy chambray shirt, cuffed colored jeans, simple sandals, fabulous handbag, and ridiculously huge sunglasses. She wore this ensemble to the hair salon, but you could wear it to brunch with friends, wandering around the farmers’ market, thrift shopping, traffic court, or wherever else your weekend might take you. The best part? I found all the pieces for around $70 or less. Get the shopping details after the jump! Keep reading »
I can’t wear hats. I have a head the size of a middle school Civics classroom’s globe, and hats always look, uh, interesting on me. Consequently, I’m always covetous of people who can wear wide-brimmed hats and look totally amazing. Like, say, Florence Welch, seen here strolling in NYC with nary a care in her hat-covered head. That, plus the occult-ish, purple eye-designed coat, makes her the perfect modern witch. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]
This “Great Gatsby” movie’s been supposed to be coming out for, like, a year now, and I’m super happy it’s almost here, mostly so I can stop receiving PR pitches every five seconds about “Great Gatsby”-style or “Great Gatsby”-themed accessories, the vast majority of which are not at all related to anything Roaring ’20s in the slightest. That said, I’m very excited to see, you know, the actual “Great Gatsby” costumes, designed by Miuccia Prada and her team of worker bees.
And if the clothes worn at the New York premiere of the film are any indication, we have a lot to look forward to. Click through to see some of the best (and worst) on the red carpet…
Kim Kardashian’s airport outfits usually consist of 6-inch stiletto heels, stiff peplum tops, and leather pants so tight that if you look at them for too long you can get a sympathy yeast infection. She’s stuck to this formula even as her pregnancy has progressed, and she always looks so profoundly uncomfortable (and even a little sad?), tottering between terminals in spike heels. But today is a new day, my friends. Kim Kardashian wore this cute, comfy, breathable outfit to the airport. Leggings! A soft chambray shirt! Flat sandals! Is this proof that hell has frozen over? Maybe, but I don’t even care. She looks great. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
I actually think Rihanna’s outfit here is cute– I love the crazy printed top with the shorts. But those shoes. THOSE SHOES SANDALS WHATEVER. They look kind of like those fake, detachable legs or leg braces. Which are great if you don’t have legs and need them, but they make for very odd shoe-inspiration. Also, clearly a pain in the ass to get on and off. [Photos: INF Daily]
Sometimes models off duty default to totally scruffy and unkempt. It makes sense: If you spend your days ensconced in fancy clothes and high heels, you’re probably gonna want to go casual in your private time. Not so for model and Rachel-a-like Erin O’Connor, who was caught leaving London’s Vogue Festival (we’re picturing funnel cake in Givenchy heels) in a (we think it’s) Marni skirt and turtleneck. She looks ready to stroll through a 1940s Italian city scene or something. In any case, we’re coveting that skirt. [Pacific Coast News]
Hey y’all, I just wanna give a shoutout to Zoe Saldana, who has been absolutely killing it everywhere she goes. Between two “Star Trek Into Darkness” events this week, and the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month, lady has been looking ahhhhhh-mazing. These looks are all seriously difficult to pull off, but she is Seriously Doing It. I can’t remember the last time I was this wowed by a star’s fashion prowess. Again: killing it.
Hot damn, Ellen and Portia are a beautiful couple, aren’t they? My favorite thing about them is that every time they’re together, they both just light up–they wear their adoration for each other on their sleeve and I really admire that. OK, enough fangirl-ing about their relationship, let’s talk about their outfits! For the “Arrested Development” premiere red carpet (side note: OH MY GOD I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING), Ellen chose a sleek gray suit while Portia vamped it up in a tight black dress and a funky pompadour. They both look stylish, happy, and confident, which is the very essence of “Well Played.” [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
It seems like heavy, chunky scarves are kind of a year round accessory in Los Angeles. Here’s Ms. Selena Gomez in a scarf, sandals and boyfriend jeans, on her way to the gym. It’s a good spring look, because you can easily add a layer with a cardigan, or strip down to a tank top if you’re having drinks at a sidewalk cafe. Which is what we imagine Selena did after her gym stopover. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
