Not so much a cat burglar as a cat smuggler, a kitty at a Russian prison facility was detained after guards found cell phones and chargers taped to the animal’s belly. Cell phones are strictly verboten in Russian prisons, and authorities believe that the cat was being used by prisoners to ferry items in and out of their cell blocks.
The technologically advanced cat was discovered near the fence at Penal Colony No. 1 near the city of Syktyvkar, which is around 600 miles north of Moscow. The cat was detained and stripped of its expensive contraband.
Training cats to do pretty much anything is near impossible. The CIA once tried — and failed — to turn cats into spies (they spent $20 million on the attempt). So it would be pretty impressive if these inmates had been able to successfully get a cat to deliver electronics to them inside prison walls. Ah well, there’s always carrier pigeons. What with “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” its various spin-offs both real and rumored, and their omnipotent media presence, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and krew don’t really leave much to the imagination. But, as fate would have it, there’s one big, bad secret they’ve managed to keep from America: they’ve actually been cats this whole time. Honestly, I almost didn’t notice anything different about the Kardash klan in this video by Giulia Rozzi. They look pretty much the same to me. [YouTube]
Help settle a debate in The Frisky offices. Both Sophie and I think this video of a mama cat suckling her baby kittens and a gaggle of ducklings is so frickin’ cute. But Megan is seriously perturbed by the situation. It’s not natural, she says. Well, obviously! It’s sweet to see how protective the mama cat is of all of her babies, be they furry or feathered. Crazy cat ladies, we are in good company: Taylor Swift has also copped to having a little bit of a kitten situation. Witness Tay-Tay and her Scottish Fold kitten Meredith, whom she got in 2011. We’re fairly certain the “Grey’s Anatomy” fan named the feline after Meredith Grey, but we’ll let it slide. As T. Swift ponders her future as a “foreveralone,” at least she has the appropriate accoutrement: a cat, or cats. And really, that’s all a cat lady needs. Here’s Taylor, cozying up to Meredith, looking really sweet and normal. Another picture of Meredith after the jump! [Popdust]

Is it science? Evolution? An adorable genetic quirk? Whatever it is, we’re definitely into this video of Pickles the kitten braying like a goat. [Laughing Squid]
This is Mug. This little cat is owned by my friends Renee and Tom, and I’m absolutely obsessed with her. No, me and Mug have never actually formally met, but that hasn’t stopped me from “liking” her Facebook page and spending at least a good two to 10 minutes going over her ridiculous photos every day.
And oh, did I tell you about her amazing back story? Keep reading »
Holly is a 13-year-old fat cat that desperately needs to lose some weight, so her owner takes her for weekly swim sessions at the local YMCA. The look of utter disgust and horror on this cat’s face just says it all, doesn’t it? It’s pretty clear poor Holly is in the midst of some pretty deep existential despair. [YouTube] Keep reading »
Perpetually surprised cat Sam is a special boy — and a bonafide Innnnnerweb sensation. He’s got markings on his face that resemble kitty eyebrows, and it’s super cute because humans love nothing more than anthropomorphizing animals. But not as cute as what my friend Michelle Collins did with Sam, in GIF form, which you can see after the jump…

Tard, the cat otherwise known as Grumpy Cat, has been making the media rounds of late. He’s taken his patented lazy look on the road, and today stopped off at style blog Refinery 29 to talk about Choupette and take a gander at the 2013 United Bamboo cat collection. Tard exhibited disinterest and mild disdain, which means he’s perfectly positioned to be the next major fashion personality. But will Tard deign to wear any of these fancy fashions? Stick around to the end and find out. [Refinery 29]
