“I do think that Fred has a very unwavering optimism that is infectious. He’s very kind, very generous, and I think more than anything, Fred says ‘yes’ … And I love saying ‘yes’. I think it’s an important step in human growth. Just an openness. And if there’s anything that I’ve learned from my friendship with Fred, it’s just voicing an openness for possibilities and not being afraid of them.”

“Portlandia” co-star and Sleater-Kinney member Carrie Brownstein swears that Fred Armisen has changed her life. Their deep and sometimes confusing bond sounds a lot more rewarding than most Hollywood relationships. Carrie once told Elle magazine that her friendship with Fred is “one of the most intimate, functional, romantic, but nonsexual relationships we’ve ever had.” Somebody call Harry and Sally — this  pair has figured out the magic formula for a friendship without sex getting in the way. (For what it’s worth, Fred’s ex-wife, “Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss, called their brief marriage “extremely traumatic and awful and horrible.” So there’s that.) [NYmag.com Vulture] [Image via Getty]

Namaste!

Namaste, bitches! The third season of “Portlandia” is back, and they’ve released the first clip! In it, Carrie and Fred play yoga students on a major, uh, journey. The new season features Chloe Sevigny as Fred and Carrie’s new roommate, along with the same old group of misfits and weird mayors (Kyle MacLachlan, natch). IFC is also planning a “Portlandia” holiday special, to air on December 15. That’ll tide you over until the new season begins on Friday, January 4. We’ll be watching. [NYMag.com]

“Well, I mean sometimes when I watch a Ryan Gosling movie … but it’s so sad to say because the line to make out with Ryan Gosling is so long. I’m probably at the back of it. But he’s always on that list. Almost anyone on ‘Game of Thrones’ that is an adult. Any adult or human in “Game of Thrones” would be fair game. Oh, and Melanie Laurent, I think she’s gorgeous. So yeah, Ryan Gosling, the adult cast of ‘Game of Thrones,’ and Melanie Laurent.”

“I guess that [the things "Portlandia" makes fun of] are ridiculous, but at the same time they’re things that I embrace — it’s a set of behaviors and an ideology that I enact, and that I think many of us sort of perform or follow. But then, at the same time, as you’re doing it, I think there is an awareness sometimes that probably somewhere, for someone else, there is a bigger battle than, you know, making sure that your fresh pasta is local, or whether or not the ingredients are organic. Wild Flag “Romance” Us

Wild Flag is an all-female supergroup of sorts, featuring Janet Weiss and Carrie Brownstein from Sleater Kinney, Rebecca Cole from The Minders, and Mary Timony from Helium. “Romance,” the first single off their self-titled debut release, features the band members taking a rather unorthodox coffee break from their dull office jobs. A First Look At Fred Armisen And Carrie Brownstein’s “Portlandia”

I know what I’ll be doing Friday, January 21, 2011, at 10:30 p.m. EST: watching “Portlandia,” duh. “Saturday Night Live”‘s Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein will star in this IFC sitcom mocking the too-PC-for-their-own-good residents of Portland, Oregon. Of course, it’s not actual Portlanders who are being made fun of, but the types of people who dumpster-dive for fruit (ew) and “put birds on things.” [YouTube via IFC] Keep reading »

Fred Armisen & Carrie Brownstein Are Getting Their Own Show!

I have never been to Portland, Oregon, but I can imagine how annoying some people who live there might be. Possibly even more annoying than the ones who live in Brooklyn. So I thank the heavens for “Saturday Night Live”‘s Fred Armisen and ex-Sleater-Kinney guitarist Carrie Brownstein, who will enlighten us all when their new sitcom, “Portlandia,” debuts on the IFC channel.
