Who’s Your Sugar Daddy?

This week, the female blogosphere is abuzz with chatter over a story by a college senior in Philadelphia entitled “My Sugar Daddy.” According to “Melissa Beech,” the pseudonymous author, she’s your average, upper-middle class girl: “I was blessed to have been raised with class, sent to the best schools, and taught to be well read, well spoken and well traveled.” During college, she worked in retail and as a waitress, but she spent more than she earned and the economy was tanking. When she set out to find a “real” job, she encountered a man who made her a different kind of offer: a “Mutually Beneficial Arrangement.” In a nutshell, he forks over around $5,000 a month, they travel together, he takes her to fancy hotels, and they have sex. He was already looking for such a relationship as a member of SeekingArrangement.com. Beech believes what she’s doing isn’t prostitution: “women have used their wiles and charms to get ahead for years.” So what do you think? Is she a smart girl working a recession to her advantage — or a call girl in denial? Keep reading »

Ashley Alexandra Dupre To Tell All To Diane Sawyer

This Friday, Ashley Alexandra Dupre, the call girl whose hotel trist with then-New York governor Eliot Spitzer led to the sex scandal of the year, will appear on ABC’s “20/20” for a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer. If Spitzergate went down six months ago, why is Dupre talking now? Last week, the state of New York declared it wouldn’t be pressing charges against the Love Gov, meaning it’s unlikely Dupre will be charged for her part in the scandal, which frees the former escort to make her case to the public. On the same day, a lengthy profile of Dupre will appear in People. In excerpts from the interviews posted online, it sounds like the 23-year-old is looking to make apologies and mend her ways. Political Conventions And Call Girls

Cities benefit big time when they host major events like the Olympics. The upcoming Republican and Democratic National Conventions are two such happenings that will bring in money to more than just the restaurant and hotel businesses. A rather disturbing ABC News article says that prostitution in Denver and Minneapolis will spike during the political conventions in the coming weeks. Apparently, there are ads on the Minneapolis-area Craigslist looking for “hostesses” to help entertain “high-end clients” during the Republican National Convention, which starts September 1. And, over on the Denver section of Craigslist, women are using the convention to push their services under titles like “DNC Delight” and “Help me celebrate democracy.” Has no one learned their lesson from former N.Y. Governor Eliot Spitzer? Seriously. [ABC News] Keep reading »

Hookers On Film: Want A Best Actress Oscar? Play A Whore!

We’ve been thinkin’ about hookers lately, after last week’s poll and our new obsession with Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. After researching ladies of the night in films and TV, we’ve noticed an interesting trend — pricey call girls are incredibly fashionable, as Secret Diary suggested, but news that Darren Star would be producing an HBO based on Diary Of A Manhattan Call Girl proves it. Play a hooker in a relatively “serious” movie, and guess what? Oscar is the only man you’ll take home! (Your chances are even better if the director is Woody Allen.) After the jump we break it down with the help of a fun timeline of sex workers on TV and in the movies. Keep reading »
