Thank god. Comedy Central’s sleeper hit, “Broad City,” is poised to return for a second season on January 14, and we are so excited. And BFFs Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, the show’s stars and its primary writers, have got us all pumped with this trailer. Let’s see, there’s twerking, “white power suits,” a nod to “Pretty Woman,” Seth Rogan yelling at a kitten, lotsa crotch references, “titty chips,” big ol’ bong loads, and drama at Ilana’s grandmother’s Shiva. So, you know, more of the usual hilarity. Can’t wait!
Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, the brilliant comedic duo behind “Broad City,” chose not to join the ranks of female stars who dodge the f-word, and I love them for it. When asked by PopSugar at the Critics’ Choice Television awards whether they’re “cool with” the word feminist, Jacobson graciously responded:
“I would totally say I’m a feminist. I don’t find it to be negative at all.”
Glazer chimed in with Jaocbson to agree:
“I feel like a feminist is gender equality. You know, we’re feminists… the people who work on the show are feminists.”

Ilana Glazer’s YouTube web series “Chronic Gamer Girl” is my new favorite thing (that’s been around for awhile but I managed to miss it until now, okay?). In this episode, the “Broad City” star goes for a stroll in a New York City park and asks a random mix of strangers about when they first had sex. The results are hilarious and sweet and at times a little awkward, not unlike, you know, losing your virginity. Watch! [YouTube]
God, my love for Ilana Glazer of “Broad City” knows no bounds. The show’s resident pothead celebrated 420 yesterday with a very special episode of her web series, Chronic Gamer Girl (in which she usually plays videogames stoned), entitled “Sex: A Journey Of Love.” Her cute pup Lincoln makes an appearance, there’s some rolling around in bubble wrap, and Ilana delivers an inspiring speech imploring the viewer to recognize their sexiness. It makes no sense (unless you’re high, duh). [NYMag.com]
You never forget your first time. For me, it was five years ago. I’d just moved to Los Angeles and wanted to meet new people. I stood in line outside for almost an hour. When the doors finally opened and I settled into my spot, the lights dimmed and “Love Will Keep Us Together” by The Captain & Tennille started playing on the stereo. When the lights came back up, I knew it was show time. I was about to experience Ronna & Beverly live and, after that, I knew nothing would ever be the same again.
If the names Ronna & Beverly, don’t feel bad. That’s why I’m here: To help introduce you to some of the funniest female writing/performing teams this side of the 45th parallel. Some you might recognize from their work on the small screen and others you might know from being scene-stealers on the big screen. Either way, once you discover the comedic genius of these six dynamic duos, everything’s gonna change.
Don’t worry. This won’t hurt a bit. Keep reading »
Fresh off the news that women are getting the short shrift when it comes to representation in film, we hear that our fave YouTube comediennes, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobsen — aka the funny chicks behind “Broad City” — are in talks to produce their very own pilot for FX. So maybe things are changing around these parts. If you haven’t seen “Broad City”‘s particular brand of off-beat, lady-centered comedy, check out this clip, featuring fellow Upright Citizens Brigade alums Kristen Schaal and Amy Poehler. [YouTube]
