Rent The Runway Goes Bridal

Rent the Runway, the site that literally rents out current season designer fashions, is launching a bridal dress shop next week. That means women like me, who don’t necessarily want to keep their bridal gown or spend thousands of dollars on one, will be able to rent a dress for their big day. As wedding season gets into full-swing, this is amazing news for the bride trying to plan a wedding on a budget. The groom gets to rent his tux; why shouldn’t the bride have that same opportunity? Watch Out Vera Wang, Here Comes Jason Wu

Looks like Jason Wu is giving Vera Wang a run for her money. The Michelle Obama-preferred designer is entering the bridal market with a line of wedding dresses for Net-A-Porter. Says Wu: “The capsule collection includes wonderful options for a bride, but also has a relaxed attitude with pieces that can be worn to other occasions.” We’re loving the sketches, which look fun and young while staying classic. Even though I have no plans to get hitched myself at the moment, wedding dresses are very much on my mind right now. Our blogger Nina is presently searching for one, as is my dear friend Courtney, and another pal is actively not searching yet because she’s too intimidated by the entire process. Another, erm, “acquaintance” who has settled on a fiancé but not a gown is Chelsea Clinton, whom Hillary said (in a recent CNN interview) wasn’t quite there yet.

We Knew Wedding Dresses Were Expensive, But Half A Mil?

While this $501,640 dress isn’t the most expensive wedding gown we’ve met, it’s certainly up there. Besides yards and yards of platinum-colored tulle, the dress includes 10 feet of platinum chain, 33 carats of diamonds, 145.84 carats of aquamarine, white keshi pearls, and a white south sea pearl pendant. The dress is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between Tutera, who hosts “My Fair Wedding,” and jewelry designer Erica Courtney. Call us cheap, but we don’t get it.
