Mom Sues After Parents Magazine Breastfeeding Video Ends Up On Porn Site

surprised baby photo

Two years ago, a New Jersey mom filmed an educational video about breastfeeding for Parents magazine’s website and their associated YouTube channel.

Then, to MaryAnn Sahourey’s great horror, some asshole took the video, spliced it with pornography of a woman who looked like Sahourey having sex, and reposted it online. The kicker is that both Sahourey’s name and the the name of her infant daughter were posted along with it. Keep reading »

Breasts. You may have heard of their alternate use as feeding mechanisms for tiny offspring. You may also have heard of their function in women’s sexual pleasure. But let us not forget the real purpose of a lady’s chesticles: sexual pleasure for her husband.

And all that time a new mama spends nursing? That’s time her hubby isn’t playing with his boobs.

Thus seems to be the logic behind baby bottle manufacturer Bittylab’s recent tweets advertising their product, called Bare, which read “New baby? Reclaim your wife” and “Feeling like you’re competing with your newborn for mommy’s attention? Meet BARE air-free #babybottles.” Keep reading »

A Reality Show About Breastfeeding Older Children Is On The Way

On the heels of the Time magazine cover and all the talk about attachment parenting, Collins Avenue, the production company that brought us “Dance Moms” (which I happen to love, that Abbey Lee Miller is a trip), is developing a reality series about mothers who breastfeed older children. And no, I am not making reference to Michelle from TLC’s “Strange Sex” series who practices erotic breastfeeding with her husband. I am talking about mothers who are still nursing kids old enough to ask for the tit by name.

The New York Post interviewed some mothers who breastfeed their older children. “If she’d wanted to stop any earlier she just would have,” said one mother whose daughter self-weaned at age seven. Yikes. Seven? She sounds old enough to have written an English assignment about her love of breast milk. Keep reading »

Last month, the Interwebs were abuzz over pics of with two Airmen breastfeeding in uniform. Terran Echegoyen-McCabe and Christina Luna were not violating a specific policy against breastfeeding, but an Air Force spokesperson said Airmen must project a “professional image at all times while in uniform.” They were somewhat lucky: earlier this month, the spokeswoman for Mom2Mom, the organization behind the nursing pics, found herself out of a job. Crystal Scott was fired from her job as an X-ray technician in  Washington and was told by her employer it was “due to the media.” Keep reading »

Pregnant Snooki is going to poop out a little guido sometime this fall and is turning to someone older and wiser for guidance about breastfeeding. Naturally, the only D-list celebrity whose skin is orange enough to be to taken seriously by young Snooks is Big Ang from “Mob Wives.” They might be each other’s spirit animals. Although, really, if Snooki had boob job questions, couldn’t she just ask JWoww? [VH1

  • Apparently some people are pissed off about a photograph of two Air Force servicewomen, Terran Echegoyen-McCabe and Christina Luna, breastfeeding their children in uniform, calling it a “disgrace.” What, soldiers aren’t supposed to have boobs (or babies)? Soldiers aren’t supposed to appear nurturing? Echegoyen-McCabe told MSNBC, “There isn’t a policy saying we can or cannot breast-feed in uniform. I think it’s something that every military mom who is breast-feeding has done.” The Air Force said it has no policy against breastfeeding in uniform, but released a statement urging “airmen” to project a “professional image at all times while in uniform.” Frankly, I think these photos are extremely cool! 8 Celebrity Attachment Parents

Alanis Morissette has something she thinks you oughta know: she intends on breastfeeding her 16-month-old son Ever until he’s ready to stop, saying that the practice will keep him out of therapy. “For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment,” she told Billy Bush. “That stage of development is a very important stage.” She also said that she’s a fan of co-sleeping as well; “We’re definitely skin-on-skin connected as much as possible,” she said. I can’t say I’m surprised that Alanis is a self-defined attachment parent (AP); after all, her baby daddy is a guy named Souleye. [Celebrity Baby Scoop]

But seriously, I don’t get what all the fuss surrounding AP is all about. Carrying your child in a baby sling as opposed to pushing them in a stroller — so cute! Breastfeeding for as long as you and your kid damn well want to — if mom doesn’t care about a few nipple bites, why should we? Many of the aspects of AP sound pretty okay by me and I wouldn’t be surprised if, when I become a mom, I practice my own modified version. I mean, I’ve been co-sleeping with my dog Lucca since day one.

Here are seven other celebrity parents who practice AP and they don’t give a damn whether you approve or not!

Here it is. The latest in the “mommy wars.”

Because everything is a war these days, it seems. Yesterday, we were talking about the “war on obesity.” I even heard that Obama declared “war on marriage.” So “war” means “having a different opinion.” Or possibly “wanting equal rights.” In a moment, it might mean, “Hey, what you lookin’ at? You got a problem?”

But I want to talk about the so-called “mommy wars.” The cycle of articles and news reports and TV interviews and books that argue for the one good way to raise kids, and explain why every other idea is not only terrible, but it will definitely destroy your children’s future.

The mommy wars keep going, and going, and then they’re still going, because they are at their heart about two things that almost everyone cares about intensely: What it means to be a woman, and what is good for children. Keep reading »

TIME magazine breastfeeding cover photo

Whoa. Hi there, TIME magazine. You went there, didn’t you?

I’m as pro-breastfeeding-in-public as one can be, but this cover photo the intentional provocation of this cover annoys me.  The 26-year-old mother Jamie Lynne Grumet is model-hot and that’s no accident; nor is it an accident that her child she is breastfeeding is three-years-old, an age which some may argue is “too old” to be nursing at their mama’s breast. I make no judgments about this mother’s attachment parenting or breastfeeding. But I wonder, will the visceral reaction to this provocative cover  — which I would place bets on being covered up at newsstands, a la Cosmopolitan titties —  do more harm to the parenting tactics she believes in than it will do good?

Care For Some Breast Milk With Your Oreo Cookie? (NSFW)

On the subject of breastfeeding in public, I’m the most hippie-dippy of the hippy-dippies. Whip those puppies out any place you want, mama!

But one place I’ll agree breastmilk does not belong is this South Korean Oreo cookie ad.  (See the full pic after the jump.) Keep reading »
