On the subject of breastfeeding in public, I’m the most hippie-dippy of the hippy-dippies. Whip those puppies out any place you want, mama!
But one place I’ll agree breastmilk does not belong is this South Korean Oreo cookie ad. (See the full pic after the jump.) Keep reading »
Debates have flared over where it’s okay for women to breastfeed, but here’s one location that’s definitely off-limits — inside a stranger’s home with someone else’s baby.
That’s what happened in South Dakota where a mom was startled to find a woman she didn’t know breastfeeding her child in her Brookings bedroom on Sunday, radio station KJJQ reported. Read more…
… because what is more obscene than feeding your hungry children?! I mean, UGH.
I am being hyperbolic; the comedy site Funny Or Die was not. Comedian Ahna Tessler is a breastfeeding mama of twins and she submitted a skit of herself, which incorporated the breastfeeding, on Funny Or Die. The short skit called “Leah Got A Job” is about a woman who just got hired as an art teacher even though she hates children — and while she’s bitching about kids, the camera pans down to where a baby is latched to each boob. It’s shocking only because seeing a woman breastfeeding her child on camera is shocking — after two seconds of shock, it’s just “oh, she’s feeding the kids.” The video isn’t even that funny. Overall, it’s not a big deal.
At least, not to me. Funny Or Die thought differently. According to The New York Times, Ahna Tessler’s video was flagged as “obscene” — perhaps by a moderator — and not published. But what’s really a headscratcher is that her previous Funny Or Die videos were all taken down and her account with the site was suspended. Keep reading »
In Norwalk, Ohio, Chrissy Houtz had a stranger take a picture of her while she was nursing her newborn son at the city pool, and they passed it around like a “wanted poster.” She was harassed and told to stop, but after speaking with Ken Leber, the Norwalk Parks and Recreation Superintendent, who promised to retrain employees to uphold Ohio state law which protects her rights, she thought she could go back to the pool and nurse in peace.
She was wrong.
Again, Houtz breastfed her now 1-year-old son Moses at the pool and, again, was harassed. Several families apparently complained, saying it was “disgusting.” Funny enough, Ohio law not only allows breastfeeding wherever the mom is allowed with the baby, but they’ve got a law which you would think would make this topic totally moot.
They allow women to be topless anywhere men can be. Read more… Keep reading »
Stephanie Robinette, a teacher in Delaware, has been charged with resisting arrest and assaulting police officers. But it’s the weapon she used that is highly unusual. On Saturday night, Robinette attended a wedding where she had too much to drink. After hitting her husband several times, she darted for their car and locked herself inside. When police officers arrived and tried to get her out of the car, she told them that she was a breastfeeding mom. At that point, she unleashed one of the girls from her dress and bra and began spraying the officers with breast milk. She was arrested on the spot. Though she did apologize for the incident saying, “I have no criminal record; I take these charges very seriously and I absolutely intend to seek help for substance abuse with alcohol because alcoholism does run in my family,” she plans to plead not guilty. Though I guess technically, it’s assault with a life-giving weapon rather than a deadly one? [10TV, Newser] Keep reading »
I, too, await the cyborg overlords who will colonize the Earth, imprison us all, and incubate alien babies in our fertile wombs.
But what I cannot wrap my head around? China claims to have genetically modified cows to produce human breast milk. Yes, a “moo moo moo” cow producing milk for a “wah wah wah” human baby.
Whoa. Keep reading »
