Girl Talk: I Had A Breast Reduction

I was never one of those little girls who begged God to give her boobs. If anything, I desperately wanted them to stop growing. By the time I hit middle school, I was strapping them down into a sports bra that made it look I had a uni-boob around my chest like a tire. I was never psyched that I had big breasts. I liked wearing little boys’ T-shirts with overalls in high school and I remember looking down one day and thinking that I just wanted to be a little girl again—I didn’t want the body of a woman. I couldn’t get dressed without looking either matronly or slutty. There wasn’t really an in-between for me and my boobs. By the time I was 25, they were a 34G. Keep reading »

Tennis Player Simona Halep’s Breast Reduction Deflates Her Fan Base

This is all kinds of creepy: fans of 18-year-old Romanian tennis player Simona Halep petitioned the player (on Facebook and elsewhere) against getting a breast reduction when she announced her big boobs hurt her and hindered her game. Why make such an announcement in the first place? Who knows. But in a message to her fans — for some reason she felt the need to explain this further — Halep said, “It’s the weight that troubles me. My ability to react quickly [is compromised and] my breasts make me uncomfortable when I play. I don’t like them in my everyday life, either. I would have gone for surgery even if I hadn’t been a sportswoman.” A breast reduction surgery last summer has since reduced Halep’s 34DD cup size to a 34C, which hopefully her fans can deal with. Really, people: she’s a teen tennis star who made it all the way to the French Open last weekend, not a Maxim pin-up. That’s Anna Kournikova you’re thinking of. [Daily Mail UK]

Breaking News: Ladies Still Lovable After Breast Reduction Surgeries!

Recently, a guy wrote in to Times Online seeking some relationship advice. His girlfriend has size FF breasts, you see, and is considering a reduction surgery and he’s concerned his feelings for her will change if she goes through with it. He writes: “She says her breasts restrict her and weigh her down, but the operation sounds brutal. I love her the way she is and worry that I won’t feel the same about her afterwards. How can I persuade her to change her mind?”

On The Rack: Breasts And A Starlet’s Career

Yesterday, Amelia noticed something different about Ali Lohan’s physique, so that got me thinking about how breasts, or a lack thereof, can affect a young starlet’s rise to fame. Here’s a list of celebs whose breasts have affected their careers.

  • Soleil Moon Frye is best known for her role as Punky in the television sitcom Punky Brewster. When she was 16, Soleil had breast reduction surgery, going from 36DD to 34C because she had back problems. But knowing our culture, I think she also wanted to be taken seriously as an actress and later as a director.
  • To me, Raven-Symone represents a normal body size. She has curves that are proportional to her height, and she’s one of a few thick girls catering to the preteen girl demographic. But every time I watch That’s So Raven, I wonder why her breasts and the rest of her torso are always covered because it makes her look larger than she really is. Then I realized this is a technique to make Raven, 22, look more like a teenager for her roles on that show and in The Cheetah Girls movies. But choosing to cover her curves has led to a malicious debate online: Is Raven fat or all breasts?
