Breaking news, ladies. Well, maybe not breaking for all of you, but for some of you, this is definitely breaking news. And it’s weird. Did you know that nipple cream is one of the best lip balms out there? Learn more on The Stir…
Following the news that charges of child neglect and abuse would not be brought against her, Octomom Nadya Suleman celebrated at NYC’s XL Hot Mess Drag Review. You might recognize the name from Tanning Mom’s appearance at the same show back in August. Sorry Octomom, Tanning Mom’s been there, done that, and flashed her panties on the red carpet to prove it.
Octomom tried her damnedest to outdo Tanning Mom. The mother of 14 got wasted, pretended to breastfeed plastic baby dolls, simulated oral sex on a drag queen and screened a clip from her new porno, “Octomom: Home Alone.” Mercy, Octomom. You win the title of worst mother. Please, stop now. [Buzzfeed, Huffington Post]
Sometimes men say ridiculous things. I’m not saying women aren’t guilty of this as well, but I’m just talking about men here. I’ve shared many breastfeeding articles, images, and rants on Facebook and have had some of my guy friends comment things that made me wonder if they were really being supportive about the real meaning behind breastfeeding or does a man’s life just get exponentially better any time boobs are mentioned. Could be either, or both. Still great to have supporters, I suppose.
But writer James Braly isn’t a breastfeeding supporter even though his wife is still nursing their 5 1/2 year old son. He wrote in the New York Times that breastfeeding caused him to no longer be attracted to his wife. He boldly wrote about the impact breastfeeding is having on his sex life and how he feels left out. In order for breastfeeding to be seen as “normal” and natural, and not frowned upon in public, we clearly need to be doing more than what we are doing. The nurse-ins are wonderful, and extremely supportive for nursing moms, but to the general public may be seen as a big nuisance. Which is why I think it’s a good idea for older kids to see moms breastfeeding. No need to hide this natural act. Older kids don’t have to go to a bathroom to eat, why should babies?
I’ve always loved the clip of Buffy nursing Cody and explaining it to Big Bird on Sesame Street. Why did segments featuring babies eating from the breast go away? Not sure. Throughout the show’s history, there were numerous nursing moms on the show, but that stopped sometime during the ’90s. Thankfully mom Lani Michelle of the blog Boobie Time (love it!) has started a petition to get Elmo and friends to welcome some breastfeeding moms on their show. Great idea, Lani! We need to support this! Read more…
As part of an ongoing blog experiment, Curtis challenged himself to eat or drink nothing but his wife Katie’s excess breast milk for as many days as possible and write about his findings. And why is their fridge (pictured above) stocked with a lifetime supply of baby nectar, you ask? Well, Katie likes to pump, save, and donate to milk banks after she births a child. There have been three to be precise. Wait, there are milk banks? Anyhow, her donation was rejected. And now, because she is too personally attached to the milk to throw it away, Curtis has a lot to drink. His experiment must not have gone so well because his blog, Don’t Have A Cow, Man, has already been removed. Too bad. I was really looking forward to reading it. [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »
Common knowledge says that men can’t breastfeed. But … can they? In a kind of awesome article over at Slate.com, writer Michael Thomsen decided to see if he—a 33-year-old male—could lactate after reading that Charles Darwin said it was possible for men to produce milk and looking up a Bible verse (Numbers 11:12, which reads, “Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father bears the sucking child”) implying that men breastfeeding was once common. Sure, we all cringed at “Baby Alive” — like your kid doesn’t eat, poop and pee enough, they had to have a toy that does too. But even that pales in comparison to the grossness that is the new breastfeeding baby doll. Yes, you read that right. Because of all the things a little girl needs to know about being a woman, learning how to breast-feed before she even has breasts needs to happen ASAP. Spanish toy maker, Berjuan, has just released Bebe Gloton, translation “Baby Glutton.” And this hungry baby cries until its child mama suckles it. The doll even comes with a nursing bra for mom! Do kids have to grow up this fast? Check out the video after the jump, but warning: you may be the one who ends up crying.
