Shocker: Men Prefer Busty Bond Girls To Holly Golightly

We interrupt this blog roll to bring you news of an important new study: A recent Radio Times poll asked men and women to rate their favorite female film icons, and astoundingly, men rated Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder number one, whereas women chose Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly. Judging from the number of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” posters on teenage girls’ walls, this is hardly a surprise. And what dude isn’t gonna pick a hot Bond chick in a bikini? The guys’ second pick was Sigourney Weaver in “Alien” (interesting), followed by Carrie Fisher in “Star Wars” (of course). Second on the lady list? A tie between Julie Andrews in “The Sound of Music” and “Mary Poppins,” leaving us to go ahead and assume they polled our grandmas. [Daily Mail] Keep reading »

Get “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” Sunglasses From Tiffany’s

In the 1961 classic “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Audrey Hepburn’s character, Holly Golightly, flits around New York City wearing Givenchy dresses and oversized shades. Many a woman has since tried to pull off Holly’s look, particularly the big sunglasses. The sunnies are supposedly a discontinued Ray-Ban style, so the movie’s title character, Tiffany & Co., has stepped in to fill the void. The brand is now selling Tiffany Charms sunglasses, which are reminiscent of the pair from the movie, in black, Tiffany blue, and purple. Of course, Tiffany wouldn’t make regular ole eyewear, so these feature charms you can switch up depending on whether you’re in a “T,” Tiffany logo, or heart kind of mood. Would you buy these to be one step closer to Holly Golightly? [Also, you would think that Ray-Ban would've stepped up and started producing them again by now. What’s Your Favorite Fashion Film Of All Time?

And please don’t say “Sex & The City.” Just in time for Fashion Week, Turner Classic Movies has released its list of their top 15 “favorite fashion trendsetting classic films” and we easily agree with their picks (and not just because we’re related). There’s simply no match for Faye Dunaway’s tams and pencil skirts in “Bonnie and Clyde” (number 10), not to mention those cheekbones. In “And God Created Woman” (7) Brigitte Bardot brought the bikini to the forefront of fashion and epitomized sexy style. We love that for “Annie Hall” (13), Diane Keaton stuck to her guns and insisted they shoot her wearing what she preferred in real life, menswear-inspired (and actual) trousers and vests. And while we admit that there’s simply no rival for Grace Kelly’s impeccably-dressed, haute couture turn in “Rear Window,” as clichéd a film as it has become, it’s Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” (9) that we’ll always think of when it comes to the ultimate marriage between fashion and film. Women love movies. Dudes love movies too. Unfortunately, women and men don’t always love the same movies — that’s why we once vetoed a dude because he couldn’t see the cinematic power of Fear. When you’ve got a boyfriend or even when you’re just going on a date with someone new, going to the cinema necessitates negotiation. You want emotions and romance and hot guys, he wants explosions, and blood, and protruding limbs. You want Reese Witherspoon, he wants Bruce Willis. 27 Dresses sounds awesome, 28 Days Later not so much.

Now be honest, how many times have you been talked into seeing a movie that ends with an epic battle where the hero’s head comes flying off at the sharp edge of a masculine sword? If the answer to that question is anything other than “zero,” you need our help in choosing chick flicks he’ll actually like.
