It might seem like all we read around here is Tumblrs about Ryan Gosling. That’s only the partial truth: most of us are pretty huge bookworms. The Frisky staff is constantly lending our most loved books, swapping recommendations, and just in general being big-ass nerds. We’re not the kinds of blog that keeps you up-to-date on all the best new books that were published in 2011. But we can keep you in the loop about the best books we loved to pieces in 2011 and we think you will love them, too.

Drumroll, please ….

Tina Fey’s Feelings On Fashion

“A wise friend once told me, ‘Don’t wear what fashion designers tell you to wear. Wear what they wear.’ His point being that most designers, no matter what they throw onto the runway, favor simple, flattering pieces for themselves. Anyone who has never met me can tell you that fashion has always been very very very very very very very important to me. For example, I once told my cousin that my dream would be ‘if the whole store Express was my closet!’ How prescient, because now, of course, I wear nothing but Express. It can’t be said enough. Don’t concern yourself with fashion; stick to simple pieces that flatter your body type … By 19, I had found my look. Oversize T-shirts, bike shorts, and wrestling shoes. To prevent the silhouette from being too baggy, I would cinch it at the waist with my fanny pack. I was pretty sure I would wear this look forever. The shirts allowed me express myself with cool sayings like ‘There’s No Crying in Baseball’ and ‘Universität Heidelberg,’ the bike shorts showed off my muscular legs, and the fanny pack held all my trolley tokens. I was nailing it on a daily basis. Find something like this for yourself as soon as possible.”

Quickies: Tina Fey’s Memoir “Bossypants” Is Out & Will Kim Kardashian Become A Jersey Girl?

  • Tina Fey’s memoir Bossypants is out today! I love this explanation for how she chose the title: “Why is this book called Bossypants? One, because the name ‘Two and a Half Men’ was already taken. And two, because ever since I became an executive producer of ’30 Rock,’ people have asked me, ‘Is it hard for you, being the boss?’ and ‘Is it uncomfortable for you to be the person in charge?’ You know, in the same way they say, ‘Gosh, Mr. Trump, is it awkward for you to be the boss of all these people?’ I can’t answer for Mr. Trump, but in my case it is not.” [ABC News]
  • Oopies. That nude photo of Elizabeth Taylor was apparently a fake. It’s reportedly a photo of dancer Lee Evans, taken by photographer Peter Gowland for a book called Classic Nude Photography: Techniques and Images with Liz’s face Photoshopped atop it. You sure had me. [Digital Spy]

Shocking! Tina Fey’s Hairy Man Arms!

Tina Fey has written a book! (Exclamation point times 100.) The title Bossypants makes it sound like yet another damn “career advice from a celebrity” book, but thankfully the book includes essays about work, motherhood and marriage. The jokers over at The Awl snapped an image of a poster for Bossypants at the Frankfurt Book Fair, which may be the cover? I don’t know; Amazon.com has not posted an image yet. Either way, it just goes to show how much TV magic it takes to cover up Tina Fey’s hairy man arms. [TheAwl.com] Keep reading »
