Ryan Gosling — an actor who The Frisky has totally neutral opinions on — says that “Blue Valentine” is a film that couples should watch together, as it’s “a cautionary tale about what can happen to love if you ignore it and you take it for granted.” We happen to think that while the love between Gosling’s Dean and Michelle Williams‘ Cindy is far from perfect, the film itself is pretty close. Impeccably acted — in fact, much of the film was improvised — “Blue Valentine” flip-flops between the past and the present state of Dean and Cindy’s relationship, showing how love can “bloom and die,” without needing to reveal the details in between. The DVD includes deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes feature, and an on-set home movie. A must-have for the “movies that illustrate how much love can hurt” section on your shelf.
