“Ryan’s a great cook, he’s really good at improvising. He said something sweet when we were in that rehearsal period. He did a lot of the cooking and a lot of the dishes, and I think finally I said to him, ‘Ryan, this isn’t how it goes. This doesn’t feel real to me.’ And he said, ‘I know, Michelle, but you have a home and a kid. You’re cooking when you go home so I feel bad making you do it here too.’”

– Michelle Williams, who’s promoting the fantastic movie “Take This Waltz,” is still being asked questions about Ryan Gosling and their 2010 film “Blue Valentine.” This is what she told the Guardian UK about the time she and Ryan spent living together in preparation for their roles as husband and wife. Swoon. [Guardian UK via Videogum]

Be Our “Blue Valentine”

Ryan Gosling — an actor who The Frisky has totally neutral opinions on — says that “Blue Valentine” is a film that couples should watch together, as it’s “a cautionary tale about what can happen to love if you ignore it and you take it for granted.” We happen to think that while the love between Gosling’s Dean and Michelle Williams‘ Cindy is far from perfect, the film itself is pretty close. Impeccably acted — in fact, much of the film was improvised — “Blue Valentine” flip-flops between the past and the present state of Dean and Cindy’s relationship, showing how love can “bloom and die,” without needing to reveal the details in between. The DVD includes deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes feature, and an on-set home movie. A must-have for the “movies that illustrate how much love can hurt” section on your shelf.

What “Blue Valentine” Took From “The Notebook”

Props to New York‘s Vulture blog for pointing out that two distinctly different Ryan Gosling films, “The Notebook” and “Blue Valentine,” have one distinct similarity — they each feature a scene in which Gosling’s character kinda, sorta threatens to kill himself if the object of his affection doesn’t give him what he wants. In “The Notebook,” “Noah” teases that he’ll throw himself off a Ferris Wheel if Rachel McAdams’ character “Allie” doesn’t agree to go on a date with him (above). In “Blue Valentine,” “Dean” scales a fence on the Manhattan Bridge and threatens to go even further if Michelle Williams’ character “Cindy” doesn’t confess a secret she’s been hiding (watch that clip after the jump). Do You And Your S.O. Have A Song?

This weekend I saw “Blue Valentine” for the second time — and there probably will be a third viewing, so just deal! — and I was struck, again, by a moment in the movie when Ryan Gosling’s character, Dean, picks out a song for he and Cindy, played by Michelle Williams. “I got us a song, like our song, that would just be for you and me,” he says. “Because everybody’s got songs, but they’re lame and they all share them, you know, it’s disgusting. Not us. We have our own song.” That song is Penny & the Quarters’ “You and Me” and, I’m not gonna lie, I sort of want to steal it for myself and the future Mr. Amelia, whoever he may be. Ryan Gosling On The Effect His Movies Have On Couples

“People would come up to me and tell me that they thought ["The Notebook"] was romantic, but one guy told me that he was engaged and [his fiancée] broke up with him after that movie because she said to him, ‘You wouldn’t build a house for me [like the lead character does], would you?’ He was like, ‘Well, no, but I don’t know how.’ She said, ‘But if you knew how?’ He said, ‘No, I wouldn’t. But it doesn’t mean I don’t love you.’ She said, ‘Yeah, it does.’ And she called it off.”

Ryan Gosling on how “The Notebook” is responsible for at least one breakup. Interestingly, Gosling thinks couples should see his new movie, “Blue Valentine,” together, even though it’s, frankly, kind of a bummer. Find out his reasoning for that, after the jump … Keep reading »

Michelle Williams Shows Her Oral Pride

“I thought, ‘I’ve never seen that before in a movie and I’m proud to be the first [to have an onscreen oral sex scene]. Good on us for making that happen … As the woman in the situation that was in question, I found absolutely nothing scandalous, tawdry or disgusting about it … when we shot that scene, both Ryan and Derek said to me, ‘If this bothers you when you see it in the movie, we’ll take it out.’”

Michelle Williams on her oral sex scene with Ryan Gosling in “Blue Valentine.” Clearly, it did not bother her both onscreen and off. I am going to partially attribute that to Ryan Gosling’s studliness. He must be easy to have between the legs. [via Huffington Post] Keep reading »

Michelle Williams Tried To Kill Ryan Gosling

“We shot for hours. And the sun was going down—we were actually stealing that shot, because we didn’t have a permit to shoot on the Brooklyn Bridge, and if we didn’t get it that night, we weren’t going to get it. And so the sun was going down, and she wasn’t telling me. So the only thing I could think of doing was to climb over (the fence on the side of) the bridge. And I never thought she’d let me get that far. I got to the other side. I just looked underneath me, and it was just—water. And it was so high, and I thought, ‘Michelle Williams is trying to kill me.’”

Michelle Williams Discusses Heath Ledger’s Death, Whether She’s Dating Ryan Gosling

Good lord, I love Michelle Williams and this interview with her on “Nightline” is pretty amazing. She talks about making “Brokeback Mountain,” falling in love with Heath Ledger, and coping with his death. “In a strange way I miss that year [after his death],” she says. “It didn’t seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door, or could appear behind a bush. In some ways, I am just, I am sad to be moving further and further away from it.”

She also talks about making “Blue Valentine” with Ryan Gosling. Keep reading »
