29 Things You’re Too Old For As Of Your 29th Birthday

One of the biggest time sucks on the internet for me, besides reading “Lost” theories and playing online Scrabble, is reading dating columnist and “lifecaster” Julia Allison’s blog, as well as the blog that mocks her mercilessly, Reblogging NonSociety. I have no excuse; I just find the whole thing entertaining and hilarious, and it’s not like I’ve managed to quit reality TV or my bronzer addiction either. Anyway, this past weekend Julia celebrated her 29th year on Earth by having her second annual Bicoastal Birthday Bash, in which she and a friend celebrate their birthdays to the XXXTREME on both coasts. (You know who isn’t celebrating? Mother Earth! Nice carbon footprint, right?) We’re talking cupcakes, costumes, balloons, presents, brunches, dinners, and lots, and lots, and lots of photos. In short, I am pretty sure Julia celebrated her 29th birthday with more self-obsessed gusto than all my birthdays combined. Which got me thinking — aren’t there some things you are just too old to be doing at the ripe ol’ age of 29? I’m 30, so maybe my extra year of wisdom makes it possible for me to see this, but there are at least 29 things every woman is too old for as of her 29th birthday. Check ‘em out, after the jump … Keep reading »

How Celebs (Over) Do Kiddie Birthdays

Even though Angelina Jolie has a career, six kids and spends her time saving the world and stuff, she still managed to make Maddox’s birthday cake this year, using Sandra Lee’s recipe from Semi-Homemade Cooking, which apparently consisted of buying a white sheet cake, putting a round white cake on top, surrounding it by cupcakes, and then decorating the lot of it. Now I feel like a total jerk for buying a Baskin Robbin’s cake with my face on it for all my friend’s birthdays. Oh wait, no I don’t—those were totally delicious. [People]

Angie might have kept it down-to-earth for her son’s big day, but most stars tend to get a little more extravagant.

Girl Talk: I’m Turning 30, So What?

In three weeks I am turning 30 years old. This is apparently a big deal, or so says everyone around me, and I am feeling a lot of pressure to celebrate it as such. But for some reason, I can’t really get worked up about it — either in a positive or negative way — and I don’t think that’s such a bad thing. Keep reading »

Happy Birthday, Barack! Which Presidential Birthday Party Would You Rather Go To?

Today is Barack Obama‘s 48th birthday. It’s Tuesday, so he’s working, but we don’t feel too bad because he celebrated over the weekend by taking a trip to Camp David and brushing up on his bowling skills. He bowled a 144—pretty darn good for a dude who claimed a few months ago that his skills in the alley were on par with the Special Olympian. [Washington Post]

So, would you wanna bowl with Barack or kick it with a past prez on his big day? See how Barack’s birthday plans stack up. Keep reading »

Happy 30th Birthday To The Happy Meal!

Thirty years ago, McDonald’s made one of the best marketing moves ever when it launched the Happy Meal. The kids staple with a toy inside has remained a consumer staple for three full decades. Over the years, the Happy Meal hasn’t just lured in children, but adults looking to collect toys. I for sure remember rolling up to Mickey D’s to pick up one of 100 million teenie beanie babies that were given out in 1997––the most popular toy to date. Keep reading »
