Billy Mays, Everyone’s Favorite Bearded Pitchman, Dies
First came Ed McMahon. Then, Farrah Fawcett. Next, Michael Jackson. And now another pop culture icon has passed away—Bill Mays, who you probably remember as the bearded, booming-voiced pitchman who inspired you to order OxiClean from the special TV offer at 2am. He passed away Sunday in Tampa, Florida, after returning home from Philadelphia on Saturday. His plane had an especially hard landing at Tampa International Airport because the plane’s front tire blew out. While Mays seemed fine afterwards, something may have hit him in the head during the landing. He went home, took a nap, and then his wife couldn’t wake him up the following morning.
As a thank you to the man who helped us do our laundry, grill our burgers, and clean our bathrooms—always at the low price of $19.99—here is an ode to the magic that is a Billy Mays infomercial. [CNN]
