An Open Letter To The “Big Brother 14″ Jury

Dear Members of the “Big Brother” Season 14 Jury,

Seriously, y’all are a bunch of butthurts. As a longtime fan of “Big Brother,” I am ashamed of you for voting for Ian to win “Big Brother 14″ over Dan. (Danielle, I can’t give you too many props for voting for Dan to win, because you only did so out of loyalty and loyalty in this game is bullshit. You should have voted for him because he deserved it.) The only reason you all voted for Ian over Dan was put best by Ian himself: he “played a slightly cleaner game.”

That is the worst reason EVER to award someone $500,000. If the choice is between someone who played a dirty game and someone who played a clean game, I can see why someone might choose the saint over the sinner. But faced with two liars, I would pick the one who lied the best, the hardest, the most convincingly, the one who lied with his hand on a Bible, on his wedding ring, and on the cross owned by his dead grandfather. That person, again and again and again, up until the very last second, was Dan. And you all fell for it. Ultimately, the only reason you didn’t vote for him to win in the end was as simple as … U MAD?!?!?! Keep reading »

Girl Talk: I Was A Reality Show Reject

The other day Amelia and I were talking about “The Bachelorette” (duh) when she admitted that she might just audition for the next season of “The Bachelor” if hottie Roberto were the prize. I asked if she’s ever tried out for a reality TV show before and she assured me that she hadn’t.

“I have,” I replied.

“Really!?” she asked.

“Yes,” I said, shamefully. It’s not something I’m proud of, but way back in 2001 I sent in an audition tape for the low-rent show “Big Brother.” Hey, if you’re going to do something like that, aim for the stars, right? In my defense, I was 24; I hadn’t really chosen a career path and for some crazy reason I thought being locked up in a house with a bunch of strangers for three months and having my every move taped for national television might help me find one. As if that weren’t bad enough, I spent most of my three-minute audition lip-syncing a Bob Dylan song and playing air bongos into the camera. Naturally, I made it to the semi-finals. Keep reading »

Police Rescue 9 Women From A Sleazy “Big Brother” Scam In Turkey

Sexy young ladies in bikinis fighting with each other and dancing by a pool—sounds like every reality show, doesn’t it? But for nine women in Turkey, the promise of appearing on a “Big Brother”-style reality show for a Turkish TV station turned out to be a trap. Police said two months ago, nine young women, between the ages of 16 and 24, responded to an ad for reality show contestants by going to a villa in the town of Riva thinking they’d be filmed for the program. But after signing a contract that banned the women from any outside contact, which threatened a $33,000 fine if they left the “filming” sooner than two months, the women realized they’d been duped by predators. Scar-y.

Meanwhile, the women’s family members also thought the no-contact rule was fishy, so they alerted the police. When cops charged into the villa, they learned four people who kept them trapped allegedly have sold naked pics of the women on the internet. So creepy. It’s unbelievable that some sick individuals would prey on women like that. (Not that the fact that some people want to get famous by wearing bathing suits and cat fighting isn’t disconcerting, too.) Girl Auctions Virginity for A Million … Meets Hot Millionaire

So maybe that whole auction-her-virginity-online-for-one-million seemed like a (tacky) publicity stunt — but it worked. Star of reality show, “Italian Big Brother,” Raffaella Fico attracted a sports superstar so rich he could buy her virginity a million times over: Cristiano Ronaldo. The Brazillian soccer hottie is now dating the “virgin,” who auctioned her goodies eight months ago and got an offer of almost two million dollars. She turned the stranger’s offer down, and soon after started dating Ronaldo. The duo have been spotted all over Europe and South America and they recently attended an Elton John concert together, where Ronaldo introduced Fico to the legend as his girlfriend. Hmmm, if an online virginity auction is the fast route to celebrity, riches and love, then should we consider selling ours too? Who cares if it’s slightly used. [Celebrity Gossip] Keep reading »

Terminal Cancer Isn’t Stopping Reality TV Star Jade Goody From Being Camera Shy

Reality TV star Jade Goody made headlines for her antics on “Big Brother” in the U.K. Instant notoriety came when she said, “I thought East Anglia was abroad.” But now she’s in the headlines for another, much more tragic reason. The 27-year-old has been fighting an uphill battle with cervical cancer since last August. Unfortunately, chemotherapy hasn’t worked to combat the cancer that is rapidly spreading throughout her body. Doctors have given the star only weeks to live. In an interview, Jade revealed how she felt when she received the news.

“I couldn’t breathe when they told me, just screamed and cried and said, ‘Can’t anyone do anything to help me!’ Because a few weeks ago when they first told me the chemo hadn’t worked they said it didn’t have to be the end.”

Jade is aware of her inevitable fate, but instead of accepting the idea that she’s dying, she’s choosing to live in the moment instead.

Get A Degree In Reality TV

It’s not uncommon for aspiring actors to audition for reality TV shows, hoping a spot on Big Brother or The Real World will get them noticed by a casting director and catapult their career into, well, reality. But now there are people who don’t really aspire to be actors who play roles, they just want to be cast as themselves because they want to be famous, if only for one season of I Love New York. As one such person said, “I see that [reality TV] would fulfill the reason why I want to get into acting in the first place. I have that desire to express myself, to get what’s inside outside and there’s no more raw, real way than reality television.” A few enterprising people have opened schools or started offering classes in cities such as New York and London, teaching people how to be on a reality TV show. Robert Galinsky, an acting coach, performer, and producer, opened the New York Reality Television School after helping someone prepare for Animal Planet’s The Groomer Has It. He shares “eight commandment of reality television,” which include “show confidence not cockiness,” “say ‘yes’ as often as possible” (the reason for all of the hookups on The Real World?), and “never say ‘I am an actor.’” During the class, five TV cameras film the students’ every move to prepare them for the intensity of starring on a show.

Maybe one day, reality TV will become a major at colleges and become such a popular career path that everyone will be on a TV show, and shows will consist of people sitting on the couch watching other reality TV shows. Let’s pray this doesn’t happen though, because even watching Justin Bobby burp on The Hills was more exciting.
