Beyonce Danced On Stage With Solange At Coachella And It Was Everything

Beyonce Danced On Stage With Solange At Coachella And It Was Everything
BRB Got Some New Moves To Master

Two Knowles sisters are better than one! This weekend at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California, Solange was joined on stage by big sister Beyonce and the two did a little dance routine straight out of their living room circa 1986. Trust that I am going to be watching this on repeat today until I get the steps down just right. [Spin]

I Love You Beyonce, But I Think You Photoshopped Your Thighs In These Golfing Photos

A friend of mine just tipped me off to these latest photos Beyonce posted to her Instagram, featuring the singer, clad in sort of retro-style two-piece swimsuit, golfing on vacation. I had two thoughts: Hey, looks like her stance is pretty good! and Wow, that’s some badly Photoshopped thigh gap. Aside from the obvious, which is that Beyonce’s (extremely toned, hard-working, bad ass, Blue-birthing) body doesn’t usually have thigh gap you could drive a kid’s fire engine toy through, the signs that something is “off” are easily recognizable to anyone who spends any amount of time photo editing. The slight wavy unevenness and a certain sharpness where there should be a natural curve indicate that the clone stamp tool was probably used to whittle down Bey’s thighs and butt area, just enough to look unnoticeable and natural at first glance. For a third and fourth opinion — my friend had already agreed with me that these were ‘shopped — I asked two friends who are very knowledgable about these things for their opinions. Both took one look and agreed that something had been done to the areas circled in white above, probably using Photoshop’s clone stamp tool. The image on the left being especially obvious to both of them. Keep reading »

Beyonce Wants You To Own Your Sexuality, Dammit

“I’d like to believe that my music opened up that conversation. There is unbelievable power in ownership, and women should own their sexuality. There is a double standard when it comes to sexuality that still persists. Men are free and women are not. That is crazy. The old lessons of submissiveness and fragility made us victims. Women are so much more than that. You can be a businesswoman, a mother, an artist, and a feminist—whatever you want to be—and still be a sexual being. It’s not mutually exclusive.”

Beyonce told Out magazine that she wanted to get us thinking about sexual liberation when she recorded her latest album. I’m still not sure how I feel about some of Bey’s messages. I hate whenever someone says that women “should” do something as a blanket statement, but I think she’s coming from the right place. And at least she’s encouraging a dialogue about feminism and female sexuality and expression. [Out Magazine] [Photos: Santiago & Mauricio/OUT Magazine]

Mindf**k: Artist Updates Vintage Ads With Modern Day Celebrities

For the past year, Paris-based art director David Redon has been contributing a few hours a week to a unique hobby: Photoshopping modern celebrities into vintage advertisements. “I like the shift between vintage and modern pop culture,” he says, “because these days the border between art and commercial is very small, and artists work their images like brands do.” Redon’s handiwork lets us see what it might look like for Don Draper to design an ad campaign starring Rihanna, Drake, Beyonce, or Daft Punk. Click on the Riri/Drake ad above to check out a few more of Redon’s designs that will make you wish “Pharrell’s Happy Toothpaste” actually existed. [Design Taxi]

Beyonce’s Alternative Video For “Grown Woman” Is For Those Of Us Who Grew Up With “Saved By The Bell,” Caboodles & Trapper Keepers

Beyonce's Alternative Video For "Grown Woman" Is For Those Of Us Who Grew Up With "Saved By The Bell," Caboodles & Trapper Keepers
So Colorful And Squiggly!

As I’m sure you know, Beyonce‘s most recent self-titled album came along with a music video for each song on the record, plus a few extra videos, including one for the song “Grown Woman.” Now an alternative video has been released for that song, and visually, it is seemingly inspired by so many of the things that defined the early-’90s. Namely, the MS Paint-esque doodles and graphics are reminiscent of the opening credits of “Saved By The Bell,” as well as the designs favored by brands like Caboodles and Trapper Keeper. I can’t remember the last time I saw so much teal and sea foam green in a music video! Take me back, Bey, take me back. [YouTube]

Meet Elizabeth Raine, The 27-Year-Old Med Student Auctioning Off Her Virginity

  • A 27-year-old woman going by the name of “Elizabeth Raine” is auctioning off her virginity to help pay for med school … well, kind of. She says money is her motivation, but she doesn’t need the money. Her auction takes place on April 1, so it might be a big joke. [Huffington Post]

Postmodern Jukebox Does A Swingin’ Cover Of Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love”

Postmodern Jukebox Does A Swingin' Cover Of Beyonce's "Drunk In Love"
Beyonce, Big Band-Style!

I know, I know, you’re probably tiring of all the various takes on Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love,” from emojis to Katy B to Kanye’s remix, but I swear, this one is worth it. Scott Bradlee and Postmodern Jukebox, who have become known for expertly covering pop hits in the style of other music genres — Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” as a kinda gothic R&B jam is another recent cover — have taken the Beyonce and Jay Z collab and given it a 1940s, Big Band-style twist. Vocalist Cristina Gatti is seriously incredible. I have a feeling Bey herself would approve. [YouTube]

Appalled Grandmothers Read Beyonce’s “Drunk In Love” Lyrics, I Die Laughing

"Who's Anna Mae? I Think She Wrote A Book..."

You guys, I’m convinced that this video of grandmothers reading Beyonce‘s “Drunk In Love” lyrics is the eighth world wonder.  From their declaration that Bey and Jay “must have a big bath tub,” to questions about modern society (“We never talked when we had sex. What’s all this talking?”), this video is a gem of the rarest kind. While I do disagree with the granny in yellow that this song  ”is a piece of shit,” I can only hope that my best girlfriends and I grow up to be just like this trio of whippersnappers. Sandwiches included.

Don’t get us wrong: we are obsessed with the Beyonce’s latest solo album and have been listening to it on repeat. But that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate a new interpretation of Bey’s amazing (ah-mah-zing) self-titled effort, like this one from YouTube performers Superfruit. The vocally gifted lads covered Beyonce’s whole album in just a few minutes, and I can’t even handle the talent. I might actually like it better than the original album. [Okay, that's blasphemy. -- Amelia] Somebody get these two a record deal! [Time]

Beyonce Leans In, Appears In PSA To Ban The Word “Bossy”

Beyonce Leans In, Appears In PSA To Ban The Word "Bossy"
"I'm not bossy. I'm the boss."

I am decisively “meh” on Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In foundation and its focus on a feminist movement driven by/benefiting capitalism, but I can get behind their latest PSA campaign to ban the word “bossy,” as it’s frequently used to describe and diminish ambitious women. Beyonce is down with it too, appearing in the PSA above (along with Jennifer Garner, Diane von Furstenberg, and Condoleezza Rice, amongst others) in which she states, “I’m not bossy. I’m the boss.” I just decided that Beyonce needs to do a song called “Bossy,” with that line as a lyric. And then it can be added to her soundboardt. Please? [NYMag.com]
