I have to say, one of my fondest memories of my last relationship is when the he would pick out music for us. We would start out just listening to it, and then, well….my favorites were Frank Sinatra, his Classical playlist, and then other random folk artists…I love feeling classy, and who doesn’t feel like a 40s starlet while they are making out to “The way you look tonight” or “Fly me to the moon”??!!
Thank you for all your comments! Keep reading »
After posting yesterday’s sleek Grammy hair photos, I noticed something when I zoomed in on Beyonce‘s hair—it had sparkly strands running through it! Now, after much tireless hair research, I’ve finally ascertained that 1) I’m not seeing things that don’t exist, and 2) Her hairstylist did, in fact, pump up her hair with loads of bling. According to Kimberly Kimble, the stylist who created the hair look, there were strands of Bella Via Hair Glitz woven into her ‘do. (Apparently, they were coordinating with her Minx mani.) Stars! They’re just like us! In this month’s Allure, Beyoncé talks about her silly beauty regime that wasn’t always first-class:
“I remember when I started doing my hair myself—I cut bangs, and I started curling my hair and pressing it, literally, with an iron … The girls from Destiny’s Child, we would put our hair on the ironing board, and iron it, which is so crazy! My mom [who used to own a hair salon] was like, ‘We have to get you out of your own hair, because you are destroying it!’”
Does that bring you back to any of the crazy things you did as you discovered womanhood, and before you really figured things out? Or, in Beyoncé’s case, were able to afford the proper tools? Please, share your first-time mascara blunders, eyeliner confusion, and unforgivable hairstyles from your misguided youth in the comments below! [Allure] Keep reading »
Who makes more than an uber-celebrity who earns millions per movie, album, or TV season? Two uber-celebrities who just happen to be married. Forbes is always giving us a behind-the-scenes peek at famous finances—don’t tell us you weren’t surprised by the top-earning dead celebrities—and their latest list shows the famous couples who made the most from June 2008 to June 2009. Topping the list—actually, clobbering the list (they made almost twice what the #2 couple grossed)—are Jay-Z and Beyonce. Together, they banked $122 million smackeroos. Interestingly, Beyonce is the one who brought home the most bacon—she earned $87 million to his $35 million. Also notable: While this is a massive amount of money, it’s actually much less than these two made last year, when they pulled in $162 million cumulatively.
So which other couples gave them a run (or halfhearted jog) for their money? It’s not who you think. Keep reading »
When we first read the news, it took us a second to comprehend the fact that Beyonce’s never launched a fragrance before. She’s a movie star, fashion designer, and talented singer–surely the diva must have put her personal scent loves into bottle form already, no? Apparently not. But after digesting, we have to commend Beyonce for her devotion. You see, it’s not that she hasn’t had the opportunity to package a perfume, it’s just that when the lady does something, she does it right. Keep reading »
This morning while reading the news, it took me a second to comprehend the fact that Beyonce’s never launched a fragrance before. She’s a movie star, fashion designer, and talented singer – surely the diva must have put her personal scent favorites into bottle form already, no? Apparently not. But reading on, I have to commend Beyonce for her devotion. You see, it’s not that she hasn’t had the opportunity to package a perfume, it’s just that when the girl does something, she does it right. “Everything, from the bottle design to the name and the ideas for the commercials — that’s me,” she explained. “When I commit to something, I do it 100 percent, and I’ve never had [creative control over a fragrance] until this project. I wasn’t worried about deadlines. It could have taken me three, four, however many years — this was my first fragrance, and I wanted to make sure that it was something I would love forever.”
Thankfully, her debut fragrance with Coty will launch on February 3, so the waiting will soon be over. And in true Beyonce flavor, it’s all about high temperatures, as she’s embracing the hot factor all over, from the ad campaign shot by Michael Thompson to the commercial where she’ll perform her own rendition of the song Fever. The scent is a mix of red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli and blush peach; a heart of honeysuckle nectar, almond macaroon and crème de musk, and a drydown of giant sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber.
If you miss out on her introduction to the world of perfume, there will be plenty more chances. Already she’s planning on providing the world with more scents a la Beyonce. [WWD] Keep reading »
If you tell me I can look like Beyonce, I’m going to listen. The lady has an amazing body and certainly shows it off — strutting around in her music videos and on stage in itty-bitty outfits and curve-hugging dresses. Just who does she have to thank for those perfectly toned curves? Trainer Marco Borges and his Power Moves system, which focuses on multiple muscle groups — think jumping lunges and reverse lunge presses. Already I’m tired. Last night was the Grammy nomination special, featuring performances by the likes of Nick Jonas (solo for the first time, though his brothers did introduce him), Maxwell (who is hard to listen to when all I can think of is this picture), and LL Cool J. (How is he not around more? I love this guy, “Deep Blue Sea” aside.) But the real story of the night was the ladies of music land. Beyoncé led the pack, with ten nominations. Taylor Swift followed her with eight nominations. And Lady Gaga picked up four. Let’s just hope that the world has been so fully saturated with Taylor-Kanye-Beyoncé jokes and recreations that they won’t try to do any more come the Grammy Awards on Jan. 31.
