Fashion Week Poll: Don’t These Dresses Look Like Baked Goods?

Perhaps I’m just hungry, but is it me or do these Fashion Week dresses look like baked goods?

I instantly thought ‘wedding cake’ when the Marchesa model (left) walked down the runway wearing a dress that seemed to be made out of ruffled icing. And then there was this Betsey Johnson number (right) … I want to eat it.

Don’t get me wrong, both are pretty. Though they’re not exactly my taste, they look like they would satisfy my taste buds. Which one do you think looks more like something you’d hoover into your pie hole during a bad bout of PMS? Click “vote” below your choice to weigh in.

Betsey Johnson Before She Was Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson has been around for a long ass time. Here she is in 1966, checking out models in her studio (Betsey is seated on the left), looking the picture of mod coolness.

New York Fashion Week Day 7: Rachel Roy, The Row, J. Crew And More!

Today, J. Crew showed its wares for next season, so you know Amelia was stoked. We swooned, on the other hand, for the new collection from Assembly, which has a real understated cool to it. The Row’s collection of oversized, flowy garments seemed to really reflect the Olsen twins’ personal style. And Rachel Roy’s collection showcased her girly, feminine chic. Check out those collections, along with Badgley Mischka, Betsey Johnson and Sophie Theallet, after the jump!

A couple weeks ago we read that favorite fashionista Betsey Johnson declared bankruptcy, and was forced to shut down many of her stores. Cuts were made to her design team and production on her next line was halted. Well it seems there’s even more bad news for the legendarily wacky designer: A deal has been reached to start liquidating the company’s assets in order to pay back the $6.8 million Johnson owes her creditors, and it’s going to involve getting rid of virtually everything. That means there’ll be sales on everything from store fixtures and furniture, to Johnson’s signature sparkly, pink clothing. Which is good news for Betsey fans trying to get a deal on glitter tutus, but bad news for 350 people that lost their jobs.

While we’ve long grown out of Betsey’s style, we can’t even count the number of friends who wore (or wanted to wear) Betsey Johnson dresses to their proms. Betsey represents a certain Sassy-fied era in fashion, and her own bright and bubbly personality spoke through her clothing. [Reuters]

Hold on to your sparkles, Betsey Johnson, fashion’s original wild child, is primed to get her own reality TV show on the Style Network later this year. Tentatively titled “Betsey + Lulu,” the show will follow Ms. Johnson and her daughter Lulu’s adventures and mishaps. The show is slated to focus on the relationship between mom and daughter, and how “single mother Lulu wants to launch her own fashion label and finally step out from Betsey’s shadow.” Betsey and Lulu have long collaborated — with a teenage Lulu walking in her mom’s shows in the ’90s — so we’re psyched!
