What happens when you take four best-selling skincare and makeup products and combine them in a kit that looks like a vintage hardbound book? I squeal with delight, that’s what happens, because Benefit’s new “How To Look The Best At Everything” flawless complexion kit is not only a great makeup combo, it’s adorable. For 30 bucks, you get POREfessional primer, Hello Flawless illuminator, BOI-ING concealer, Hello Flawless powder, and retro illustrated graphics that teach you how to apply each one for a truly flawless finish. This book has definitely earned a place in my makeup library. [$30, Sephora]
I’ve long complained in these Beauty Test Drives that I have dry skin. The driest skin. Well, I’m going to complain about it again! But this time it is to tell you that Benefit’s Boi-Ing concealer, which has a greasy, almost melted-waxy consistency, is a super choice for quick coverups on the go. Or, in moments of morning-after desperation, you could use it all over your face as a foundation. Keep reading »
Huge pores. A lot of us have got ‘em, but they’re not always something we want share with the world. Thank the beauty gods for Benefit’s POREfessional, a translucent balm that minimizes the appearance of pores. Gently rub it over your T-zone, on your chin, your cheeks, and anywhere else where you’d love to see smoother skin. POREfessional is oil-free and goes on under makeup without any fuss. You’ll never be crying, “Oh, poor me, my pores!” again!
If a makeup salesgirl (or makeup sales-gay) descended upon me at a beauty counter with something orange, I would visibly make a face and say, “I don’t think that will work on me.” You see, I have the pallor of Katie Holmes at a morgue in Antarctica — not a sun-kissed California girl like Kate Hudson who can pull off something with the word “mango” in the title.
But because Benefit gave me a sample of their Cha Cha Tint cheek stain to test out, I tried it. I already owned Benefit’s Posietint and wore the pinky-pink blush every day. Why not test another hue, even if it’s going to look terrible?
It didn’t look terrible, my friends. Not at all. In fact, the first day that I wore it to the office, the first thing our marketing manager Sophie said to me in the morning was “Your makeup looks great.”

We know and love Benefit’s cosmetics well — their Bad Gal eyeliner and Dr. Feelgood complexion primer have been makeup bag staples forever — but we don’t exactly think of them first when it comes to perfume. Strike that notion, because their newish Crescent Row line beats out any old Britney Spears fragrance launch any day. In fact, we bring them up now because the gorgeously ornate, fold-out boxes they come in make them a great holiday gift idea. Out of the three scents ($36 each), you’re bound to find one that’s perfect for a friend or yourself, ahem. There’s Something About Sophia, a blend of oriental blossoms, mango and vanilla; Laugh With Me Lee Lee, a woody floral blend of jasmine and lily; and My Place Or Yours Gina, an intriguing mix of red pepper, patchouli and wild raspberry. We love the vintage cocktail shaker bottle, too. So cute. Keep reading »
