Tacos The Downfall Of “Fat” Miss San Antonio Beauty Queen

Beauty pageants are brutal, yo: Pageant officials have stripped Domonique Ramirez, 17, of her Miss San Antonio beauty queen title and handed off the tiara to another girl because, among other violations, Ramirez reportedly got too fat from eating tacos.

The Miss Bexar County Organization stripped Ramirez of her crown recently for contract violations like failing to show up for events, taking modeling gigs not sanctioned by the pageant, and not writing thank you notes. Oh, sweetie, your job isn’t that hard. She sued and the pageant filed a countersuit, itemizing the list of contract violations, which included her failure to maintain the same weight she was when she won the pageant. Domonique Ramirez clocks in at 5’8″ and 129 lbs, the porker! While testifying on the stand over the past week, Ramirez said she was told by pageant officials she had to lose 13 lbs. Keep reading »

Miss Arkansas’ Ventriloquism Act Isn’t Enough To Win Miss America Title

Saturday night’s Miss America pageant should have come down to three ladies: Miss New York, who was running on a gay rights platform; Miss Delaware, who suffers from alopecia and is bald; and above, Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady, whose talent was this amazingly bizarre ventriloquism act. Sadly, a blonde robot hailing from Nebraska won the coveted title. Boo. Hiss. [via Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

Joy Behar Will Judge Miss America Pageant Based On “Intelligence, Talents”

“I realize it is out of character for me to be judging Miss America. But maybe it will make the show more modern or bring it up to date. I do always find the odd girls prettier. But I don’t think I am going to judge anybody on their beauty as much as their intelligence and their talents. … This is a complete departure for me. But I have a permission slip from Gloria Steinem.”

Blond Beauty Queen Accused Of Not Looking “Indian Enough”

Something else to dislike about beauty pageants: they create expectations about what women from different cultures “should” look like. Spectators booed Kiwi model Jacinta Lal, 21, when she won the MissIndiaNZ pageant in Wellington, New Zealand, because she told the New Zealand Herald some “small-minded people” thought she wasn’t “Indian-looking enough to win the pageant.” But despite her blond hair and blue eyes, girlfriend is part Indian: Jacinta’s father is half-Fijian and half-Indian, while her mother is a white New Zealander. Thankfully, the pageant organizer has got Jacinta’s back and said it’s a shame pageant fans cannot accept her as just another lovely Kiwi/Indian girl. Keep reading »

A 15-Year-Old Beauty Queen Loses Crown After Dyeing Hair Brown

Here in the good ole U.S. of A., it takes a lot for a beauty pageant queen to be dethroned. For Carrie Prejean, it didn’t happen until eight nude photos surfaced. Even Tara Conner, who tested positive for cocaine and heroin use, was able to keep hers. But that is not the case for 15-year-old Olivia O’Neil, Miss Teen Wanganui in New Zealand. Three months after winning her title, she decided to dye her brown and posted a photo of her new look on Facebook. Keep reading »
