If I were Kristen Stewart, I would bid adieu to my sparkly boyfriend and put a ring on my makeup artist instead. “Holiday makeup” implies many a thing. It’s festive! It’s fancy! It’s … probably a little over the top. You could go the obvious route, with red and green and tons of sparkle and, like, a wreath or pine needles in your hair, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Here, Leighton Meester shows us the perfect way to bridge the gap between classic and festive without throwing an impromptu Christmas party on your face. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on here and break it down real simple, after the jump … Keep reading »

Fall Beauty How-To: Kristen Stewart’s Golden Smoky Eye

We’re reaching the point of the year wherein I refuse to leave my bed at any and all costs because it is so damn cold. There unfortunately aren’t too many upsides to late fall as far as I’m concerned, aside from pretty scarves, outerwear, and, like, wool tights, but none of these things are enough to get me out from under the comforter every morning. But do you know what is? Eyeshadow! I pretty much forget about the stuff when the temperature rises above 50 degrees, because no matter how much primer I slap on or powder I dust on top, it is going to be dripping down my sorry face in a few minutes time.

With the most bloody of celebrations (yay, Thanksgiving!) on deck, I’ve been searching for inspiration to fuel a festive fall eye, and I finally found it in Kristen Stewart‘s gilded take on a smoky eye. She paired it with a gorgeous, quite revealing gown, but this look is equally suited to your Thanksgiving best, even if your Thanksgiving best happens to be your best pair of sweatpants. Find out how to get Kristen’s look, after the jump! Keep reading »

It’s been some time since our long-running Free Katie campaign finally came to fruition, and there seems to be just the atmospheric shift we were hoping for: Suri is enrolled in a real brick-and-mortar school for mortals, and not only was Katie Holmes able to offer her Holmes & Yang presentation at NYFW, but she’s appearing on magazine covers again! The October issue of Harper’s Bazaar Russia features the actress and designer in some gorgeous opulent clothing, but what I’m really interested in is her eye makeup. It’s dark and smoldering, as are most smoky eye looks, but it’s subtly different and therefore more interesting because rather than being done in shades of black and grey, the colors ― deep metallic green and a warm reddish brown ― are more on the peacock spectrum. Obviously hers is beautifully, artfully done, but I know how to get a similar look in a simpler way that requires little more than five minutes and an index finger or two… Keep reading »

The cooler seasons always call for more dramatic beauty looks, from sultry smoky eyes to vampy red lips, but this year’s focus is especially inclined toward a statement lip that’s a touch darker than the usual fall fare. Most of us (myself included) won’t have the guts for the vampy bordeaux lips we’ve been seeing on celebs, but a striking red never goes out of style (plus, it totally completes an otherwise low-maintenance face, perfect for those foggy mornings where you just don’t want to get out of bed). The catch to wearing the look is that, while bold opaque lipstick is guaranteed to grab attention, it also grabs on to any wayward imperfections, like fine lines or chapped lips. There are a few steps you can take to get the most out of your lipstick, whether it’s matte or satin, burgundy or coral — just follow these tips and go for it! Keep reading »

I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about the cupcake-y dress Keira Knightley wore to the “Anna Karenina” UK premiere, but one thing is for absolute certain: her makeup was gorgeous. Keira is, you know, one of the most naturally beautiful people alive, but makeup artist Lisa Eldridge made the very best of the actress’s features for the occasion. She said of her decision to focus mainly on a feline smoky eye, “I wanted to create a soft, pale, and pretty makeup that had a romantic feel but was careful to add strength around the eyes so the overall look wasn’t washed out against the dress.” Lisa, who spoke to Grazia Daily just after the event, used Chanel products to create the look (Keira is the brand’s beauty ambassador). Get the full scoop after the jump, but don’t be put off by the potential costliness of recreating it — I’ve also included my top product picks for taking Keira’s cues at a more affordable price range. So we’ve covered both the top trends to watch this fall and the five must-haves you need to get them, but there’s one particular look that’s been safely concealed beneath the radar until now. Burgundy eyeshadow — or, well, any eyeshadow with warm reddish tones — doesn’t exactly sound like the most flattering of colors, but you’d be pleasantly surprised by how wearable the vampy shade becomes when applied sheer and smoky like a haze around the eye.
