Why not leave the heavy makeup at home this Memorial Day and opt for something a touch softer instead, like Marion Cotillard’s romantic, slightly smoky-eyed look from Cannes? It’s simple, fresh, and easily recreated with just a few products that you probably already have stashed in your makeup bag… Keep reading »

Beyonce sure has a lot going on lately (and, um, all the time): a massive tour, a controversial trip to Cuba, a rumored second pregnancy… But regardless of how much Queen Bey has on her plate, she never misses a beat when it comes to looking flawless, whether she’s rolling in to a Nets game or a red carpet event. Mrs. Carter’s flame-embellished gown at the Met Ball was a polarizing choice, but her makeup for the evening? Universally gorgeous. A few tips and tricks, after the jump… Keep reading »

Beauty Cues: The 2013 Met Costume Institute Ball

If there’s one thing we can say for certain about Monday night’s “punk”-themed Met Gala, it’s that there was certainly a lot to look at. Like, a lot. We hardly even know where to begin. There was the good, which was at its best over-the-top and in keeping (or attempted) with the misappropriated theme, and then there was the cringeworthy bad, which was either a total miss (do you even know what you’re here for?) or uncannily similar to a first-degree crime committed on the local Hot Topic store. But the beauty, by and large, was spectacular! Red carpet events usually call for boring stalwarts of things like “red lips” and “Hollywood waves,” but makeup artists and hair stylists really got a chance to show their edgier chops last night. For this, we are grateful… and, naturally, jealous of the stars who got to wear some of the best looks at the gala. We’re taking cues from six of our favorite looks of the night, right here…

Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there. I’m just having sensory overload and perhaps some minor hyperventilation after seeing three of my faves all together on the red carpet yellow brick road. Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz are the stars of “Oz The Great and Powerful,” as the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda the Good Witch, and the Wicked Witch of the East, respectively. They all looked gorgeous… and we want Michelle’s dress in our closet, stat. But despite their differences in personal style, the stunning starlets all went for fairly similar makeup choices — dark liner, contoured cheeks, and natural pink lips were par for the course last night. Do we think they coordinated? That’s one premiere pre-game I’d die to attend. In the absence of a formal invite, I’ll show you how to get their lovely looks in the gallery above!

As a general rule, I shy away from black eyeliner on the lower lid; when used around the entirety of the eye, its eye-shrinking abilities are unrivaled. The only people who can pull it off, in my opinion, are those who are all-around ungodly beautiful (Angelina Jolie!) and those who have a naturally bigger, rounder eye shape that isn’t as easily overwhelmed by darkness. So when I saw this picture of Jessica Chastain at the Hollywood Reporter Nominees’ Night, I was beyond pleasantly surprised to find that she (or, well, her makeup artist) had discovered a way to wear thick black liner all around the eye without it dragging her entire look down. Here’s how… Keep reading »

Our Favorite Beauty Looks From The SAG Awards (And How To Get Them)

I am a happy spectator of any and all awards shows for what is likely the same reason that most people are: I love nothing more than to turn on my TV, eat a ton of bread, and watch the most beautiful people in the world prance around in designer dresses and the kind of makeup I could only dream of applying. Be still my heart! There were quite a few beauty highlights from the Screen Actors Guild Awards this weekend: here’s just a few, and how to get them…

Beauty Cues: Rose Byrne’s Simple Shaded Eyes

I’m pretty sure Rose Byrne could make clown makeup look ultra-glam, but that doesn’t mean that this simple contoured eye look is any less impressive. In a season filled with beauty influences on either side of the spectrum, from burgundy-lipped goth to luminous “is she even wearing makeup?” faces, this one lands safely in between. It might have something to do with the fact that Rose is in Australia right now, and I’m pretty sure it’s summer there. Still, this is a completely versatile, classic look that can be toned down for work or glammed up for play, whatever the season. Here’s how… Keep reading »

How do you like Emily Blunt‘s new lighter hair? I think it looks gorgeous ― I recall reading somewhere that she’s actually a natural blonde, so it makes sense that this new shade flatters her coloring so nicely. This makeup is so simple and pretty, but the softly gilded touch around her eyes makes it festive enough for any holiday celebration (and, as you can see on Emily, looks stunning with similarly toned jewelry). Low on product and maintenance, this look is gorgeous no matter how long you’ve been out in the cold. I’ll show you how to get it, after the jump! Keep reading »

I have a serious face crush on Olivia Wilde. As a very devoted cat lover, I am inherently drawn to all things even remotely feline, and Olivia’s angular bone structure and wide-set eyes definitely fit the bill. The former “House” actress (who, by the way, has about fifteen movies in the works) attended the annual Accessories Council awards ceremony this week, and complemented her white silk dress with one of the more fresh-faced looks I’ve seen recently — the cooler seasons are all about darkness and drama when it comes to beauty, so I love that Olivia decided to say to hell with it and lighten everything up. Because really, who needs heavy makeup with a face like that? Get the details on Olivia’s look after the jump! Keep reading »
