We generally pride ourselves on being perfectly composed and businesslike here at The Frisky offices ahahahahahaha, but I think we can all agree that we’ve endured a rough couple of weeks. Mercury Retrograde has had its wicked way with us, and needless to say, there have been some tears. Quite a few, in fact. So many that we now consider ourselves well-versed experts in the art of looking good (read: halfway acceptable, maybe), even when we feel like absolute shit. Leaving the house may be the very last thing you want to do when you’re feeling godawful for whatever reason, yet part of any recovery process is getting out in the world and reminding yourself that, yes, life goes on … but we’ve got you covered should you find yourself breaking down in the produce aisle. We know. It happens.

My history of drugstore impulse purchases has definitely been hit and miss. I have approximately $500 worth of greasy hair potions stashed in my bathroom cabinet that is proof of the “miss” part, but sometimes my tendency to wander the aisles of Walgreens late at night and buy whatever random beauty product catches my eye pays off. Exhibit A: this Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Body Lotion… Keep reading »

I’ve never been big on lipstick. I have thin lips and I also drink coffee constantly, so it seemed like any foray into lipstick would be a waste. But as I get older (and wean myself off caffeine), I’ve taken the plunge into what feels like more grown-up makeup than my usual lip balm, or if I’m feeling fancy, lip gloss. Recently I splurged on Bobbi Brown’s Rich Lip Color in Cosmic Raspberry at Bloomingdales (AKA that flaming pit in which I throw my money). Keep reading »

Some of us were born with those wonderful genes which keep us looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, even on one hour of sleep. I am not one of those people. The worst compliment any guy ever gave me was that he “loved the dark circles under my eyes.” I wanted to crawl in a hole and die. If I miss even five minutes of sleep, shed one tear, or have a touch of congestion I get monster bags under my eyes. I can’t help it! It’s genetic. I’ve tried to combat this with every kind of expensive lotion or potion on the market.

Next up is Goldie’s Bright Eyes bar, which boasts of being a miracle product. Made from all-natural ingredients like carrot juice and aloe, this facial soap protects against wrinkles, smooths uneven skin and soothes any skin irritation. I normally hate anything that’s referred to as a miracle product (what’s the catch?), but in this case, it might be true. For under $10, I’m certainly willing to find out. 3 Office-Appropriate Makeup Looks That Also Work Overtime

At The Frisky offices, it’s a rare day when one of us doesn’t come in with blue eyeshadow, orange lipstick, or a dog… but it goes without saying that such isn’t the case for most workplaces. There are only so many times you can wear mascara, a touch of tasteful blush, and lip balm before it gets really, really old. If you’ve surpassed that point, like, yesterday, check out these three pretty, office-appropriate beauty looks — they aren’t quite the fuchsia lip stain or smoky eyes you might choose to sport in your free time, but when it comes to the 9-5, we guess they’ll just have to suffice. (And on the off chance you leave your lipstick at home, they can just as easily work the other 16 hours, too.)

Not long ago, BB cream was the biggest buzz in beauty. But lately, it’s all but disappeared from the lips of magazine editors and bloggers. Brands that are just now getting on their BB game are, well, kind of late to the party. The Asian favorite formula ended up being a bit of a disappointment in the U.S. market — though there are several successful versions being offered (Smashbox, Boscia, and Bobbi Brown come to mind), big drugstore companies like Maybelline and L’Oreal dropped the ball on BB by abandoning sunscreen as its main attraction.

When I heard that “The Skincare Makeup” brand Jane Iredale was at long last offering their own addition to the list of American BB creams with Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream, I knew I would have to forgo my New Makeup Ban (psh, yeah right) to give it a try. With a smooth, creamy texture, SPF 25, and the kind of hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic natural ingredients that make you think it might be safe to eat, I was not disappointed — in fact, it restored my faith in the BB cream genre, and I’ll tell you why.
