NYFW Fall 2014: BCBG Max Azria, Erin Fetherston, Rachel Comey & Tadashi Shoji

It’s that time of year again! That is, time for the the human clothing hangers better known as models to strut down the catwalks of Lincoln Center in beautiful, expensive and sometimes absurd designer clothing, for the Fall 2014 runway shows. Each day, we’ll present to you a selection of noteworthy shows so that, even if you can’t ultimately afford what you see (uh, we can’t), you’ll be up to date on the coming trends. Or at least have plenty of outfits, makeup and hair looks to drool over and/or laugh at. First up: BCBG Max Azria, Rachel Comey, Erin Fetherston and Tadashi Shoji! Keep reading »

Fashion Week Breakdown: Yummy Colors, Fun Prints & Nekkid Shoulders At BCBG

This morning, on my way to work at the bright-eyed hour of 8 a.m., I was joined in the elevator by one of the long and lithe fashion models that live in my apartment building. I don’t see them that often, as they tend to keep odder hours than my usual nine-to-five. I wonder why she’s up to early? I wondered, covertly starring (up) at her as the floors ticked downward. Her face was scrubbed free of makeup and she was thumbing through an appointment book. Oh wait! Duh. It’s fashion week, I recalled. I had blocked it out sort of. I very much love clothes, but I am not particularly fond of discussing them in great depth, which is why I “read” Luckylike a picture book. And that is exactly how we are going to be presenting some of the Spring/Summer 2012 collections being shown at New York Fashion Week; pithy intros plus photos of pretty clothes! First up is BCBG, a line that is actually kind of sort of affordable for us non-rich types. Three things I love about this collection:

        1. The colors: Lime! Lemonade! Cerulean! (I think?)
        1. The prints: The Missoni-esque stripes are lovely, but I’m especially obsessed with the mix of more “ethnic” prints with architectural color-blocking.
        1. The open shoulders: I’m sorry, but who doesn’t have gorgeous shoulders? This trend is something I can get behind because it would flatter everyone.

That, my friends, is as “fashion talk-y” as I am going to get today. Click onward to see a bunch of the looks from the BCBG Spring/Summer 2012 runway show!

How To Wear A Dress When It’s Cold Out

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off this morning with the BCBG Max Azria show, and personally, I kind of have a soft spot for their presentations because they make highly wearable clothes you can actually (or hope to someday) afford. The show notes for BCBG promised a “techno-age urban journey,” which frightened the bejeezus out of me, but it was really just a fancy way of saying versatile fabrics in neutral colors made for layering. (Sigh of relief.) The girls wore long-sleeve knit shirts and cream leggings under swishy, asymmetrical and color-blocked dresses cinched at the waists with belts. It being winter now, it’s a fun styling trick for us girls who like to wear pretty frocks in the cold weather and not freeze. Throw some geometry and sequins in the mix, like designers Max and Lubov Azria did, and you’re ready to party. (We’re sure front row celebs Michelle Williams and Misshapes DJ Leigh Lezark agree.) Check out a few more looks after the jump. Keep reading »

Fashion Week: The Hotness So Far

Oh, Fashion Week. How exciting you are. New York’s look at Spring 2009 started on Friday. After the jump are some of the designers whose newest wares struck our fancy, at least on the runway. We’ll be covering Fashion Week all next week as well, so stayed tuned for some other designers who made our stomachs turn. [Above: Rachel Comey] Keep reading »
