Barbara Walters Fist Pumps Her Way To Rock Bottom

Poor Barbara Walters. I’m imagining what it must be like after a long, successful career, to have to humble herself to the likes of the cast of “Jersey Shore“for the “10 Most Fascinating People of 2010″ special last week. She called it a “first” for her, but we all know that is a diplomatic way of saying, “I’ve hit journalistic rock bottom.” I wonder how she felt about Snooki comparing her to Elvis and saying she was “hot” in person. Or about having to ask, “What is SMUSH?” As a side note, I was floored to learn that J-Woww owned a graphic design company before she was on the show. Is that secret code for a porn site? Anyhow, we’re sorry for you, Barbara. We’ll just pretend like it never happened. Keep reading »

Oprah Cries When Asked By Barbara Walters About Lesbian Rumors

“TISSUE PLEASE!” That’s Oprah — a rare one to raise her voice — at some lackey off-camera when she starts to cry during an interview with Barbara Walters. Babs had just asked Oprah about her super-duper-close friendship with Gayle King, which sent the tears a-flowin’. Said the big O:

“She’s the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don’t know a better person.”

Then klassy Barbara asks about the “dumb rumors” — [stage whisper] you know, the lesbian ones! Keep reading »

Why Would Anyone Watch A Male Spin-Off Of “The View”?

the view for men

Rumor has it Barbara Walters is in talks to start a spin-off of “The View” aimed towards men, starring a cast of both men and women. It hopes to air during the time slot soon-to-be vacated by Oprah. The D-list talent rounded up so far includes Bryant Gumbel as moderator; comedian Alec Mapa, who played Suzuki St. Pierre on “Ugly Betty”; BET news anchor Jacque Reid; and former Fox News host E.D. Hill. According to The New York Daily News, “[the show] will attempt to inject a male perspective into the topics of the day.” Um, that’s called nearly all of nighttime news/chat TV already. Allow me to introduce to you Larry King, David Letterman, Brian Williams, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes, Conan O’Brien, Shephard Smith … Keep reading »

President Obama Visits “The View” To Talk The Economy, Jobs, Race, And Snooki

“I don’t know who Snooki is.”

Wait, I voted for this man?

When President Barack Obama visited “The View” this morning, people living in red states and blue states alike crowded around the TV for the big event. In between cute anecdotes about Sasha and Malia and softball questions about Lindsay Lohan’s jail sentence, he fielded questions about Afghanistan, unemployment, racism, and the economy. And yes, the show’s token conservative, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, behaved herself. Keep reading »

Both Barbara Walters And Oprah Get Made-For-TV Biopics

Barbara Walters made an appearance on “The View” today, since she is fully recovered from open heart surgery two months ago. And the cat is also out of the bag that Babs is shopping her memoir, Audition, to HBO for a possible biopic. Interestingly, another one of the most powerful women on television might be getting the made-for-TV treatment, too. A producer has optioned Kitty Kelley’s Oprah: A Biography for a made-for-TV movie as well.

After the jump, what we know about these biopics and who we think should play these powerhouse ladies. Keep reading »

Nudity And Sex In Art Still Cause A Stir

Even though artists have been paying homage to the human form since the beginning, nudity and sex in art still cause a major commotion. Two works of art — one newish and one really old — are getting a lot of attention lately and making some people a little uncomfortable.

On “The View,” Barbara Walters described her trip to see one of Marina Abramovic‘s performance art pieces at MoMA over the weekend. The gist of it is that two people, sometimes male, sometimes female, stand in the nude facing one another. Patrons can walk through the two individuals if they’d like, and Barbara described her trouble getting past them without touching something in the video above, acknowledging that one of the men was more endowed than the other. Justin Bieber Wants Barbara Walters

How is it that “cougar” has become such normal terminology, and meanwhile there’s no compact way to describe a younger dude who likes his women on the mature side? Well, whatever that word may be, Justin Bieber sure seems to be one. When he appeared on “The View” yesterday, he was asked, “What kind of girls are you into?” He looked a little thrown off for a second and then replied, “You know I’m into people like … uh … Barbara Walters.” Barbara looked a little shocked. “That may be the loveliest untruth I have ever heard,” she said. Here’s hoping Barbara never interviews him one-on-one. Babs has a way of flirting with her interview subjects, and I can’t imagine how awkward it would be if a 16-year-old were returning her suggestive glances. Keep reading »

Barbara Walters Regrets Asking Ricky Martin If He Was Gay

I’m so glad I’m not a celebrity because I know at some point, I’d want to slap Barbara Walters. That bitch is nosy! At least Babs can admit she sometimes crosses the none-of-your-beeswax line: In an interview with The Toronto Star, Walters said it was “inappropriate” of her to ask booty-shaking Ricky Martin if he was gay in a 2000 interview.

In the decade-old chitchat , Walters asked the Latino pop star how he had been “enjoying” his sexuality, to which he awkwardly — and vaguely — responded, “I live la vida loca!” Keep reading »
