  • Oh dang. Jennifer Lopez backed out of guest judging the Project Runway finale at the very last minute and Tim Gunn had to step in as a backup. We prefer his opinion anyway, so there! [MSNBC]

Palin Pink And Other Campaign ’08 Lipstick Colors

When Sarah Palin addressed the nation last week at the RNC, the first female Republican VP candidate introduced a topic to the campaign I doubt most people ever saw coming. This week, it isn’t off-shore drilling, the war in Iraq, or even abortion rights that people are talking about, it’s lipstick. Thanks to Palin, we now know it’s what separates the hockey moms from the pit bulls, but as Obama reminded us a few days ago, lipstick won’t stop a pig from being a pig, a remark that’s prompted a heated debate and even brand new political ads. Surely, with all this focus on lipstick, it’s just a matter of time before someone comes out with one named after Palin. But why stop with just her? Why not introduce a whole lipstick line for Campaign ’08 ? I can see it now — we’ll have… Keep reading »

The Sexism Card: Is Sarah Palin Really A Victim Or Is She Bluffing?

We all know sexism is alive and well in America. Hollywood’s seemingly endless celebration of the chubby, schlubby, slacker dude is sexist as hell, given that chubby, schlubby, slacker girls get nowhere in Tinseltown, least of all the big screen. And yes, much of the media’s coverage of Hillary Clinton’s campaign was sexist too—and I wasn’t even a Hillary supporter, so this isn’t just a P.U.M.A.’s bitterness talking.

The latest accusation of sexism in the media comes from Governor Sarah Palin, the Vice Presidential nominee for the McCain campaign. Her supporters, her spokespeople, and conservative commentators like Bill O’Reilly assert that she is the target of sexist smear campaign. This is surprising for two reasons: 1) O’Reilly has consistently pooh-poohed claims of sexism in the past and 2) wasn’t it only a few months ago that Palin said Clinton should “stop whining” about sexism herself? Check out ten picks after the jump! Keep reading »

Sarah Palin: Will She Step Down As McCain’s Running Mate?

Thanks to Hurricane Gustav, the Republican National Convention’s “will it or won’t it happen” debate, and Sarah Palin, the media didn’t get much of a holiday this Labor Day, did they? The latter — Sarah Palin, the Governor from Alaska chosen to be Senator John McCain’s running mate — was an especially hot topic this weekend as news broke nearly every hour it seemed with some new revelation. Having spent the weekend absorbing every ounce of coverage on Palin, I woke up this morning with the clear hunch that Palin may end up dropping out of the VP spot this week — but not wanting to rush to judgment, I decided to weigh the various pros and cons of her leaving the race. Place your bets in the comments! Keep reading »

    Michelle Obama’s DNC Style FOUND!

Not that style and politics should mix, and we certainly don’t think a candidate or a candidate’s spouse should be criticized for lacking style, but Catherine and I have both been bowled over by Michelle Obama’s nose for fashion over the course of the campaign. And never more so as when we both came into the office after the final night of the DNC and said nearly in unison (after we discussed the actual substance of the night’s big speeches, of course), “Who was Michelle wearing?” Now we have the answer! According to Fashion Week Daily, Obama was wearing a Thakoon dress adorned with three Erickson Beamon broaches. Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether Obama did the accessorizing herself or whether they came with the dress as is, but regardless, this just backs up our belief that printed dresses and costume brooches are totally going to be huge for Fall. Star Couplings: David Duchovny Goes To Rehab For Sex Addiction, World Cringes

  • David Duchovny, who stars as a horny single guy on the show Californication, has checked into rehab for sex addiction. More on that later! [Perez Hilton]
  • Dear Chris Brown, I like your shirt. But I love more when you take it off. Love, Amelia. [Just Jared]
  • HA! Seems like maybe Sarah Larson didn’t let George Clooney’s devoted bachelordom get her down — she maybe, just maybe, cheated on him while they were together. [DListed]

Soundtrack To The DNC: Hillary Clinton’s Dream Playlist

Politicians aren’t exactly known for having musical taste, but you would expect the people who throw big events like, I dunno, the Democratic National Convention, would do a better job of picking cool music to introduce some of their most important speakers. That’s why it struck me as an odd choice to have Hillary Clinton walk onto the stage two nights ago to the blaring accompaniment of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way?”, “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks, and “American Girl” by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Now, I have nothing against the latter two songs (I could take or leave Lenny), but the message of the songs themselves are predictable and a bit on the wimpy side considering the strength of Hillary’s campaign. That’s why we put together our own list of dream songs that should have played background to Hillary’s big moment. That list, plus what we hope Barack Obama will walk out to tonight, after the jump! The Accidental Mouth Kiss: Haven’t We All Been There?

During last night’s surprise appearance by Barack Obama at the third night of the Democratic National Convention, we totally did a double-take when we saw the dashing Senator from Illinois plant a big one on Jill Biden, the wife of his running mate, Joe Biden. Was it on purpose and platonic mouth kisses are suddenly the new show of affection in Washington, or was it an accident? Who knows, but certainly the accidental mouth kiss is something we’ve all endured… Keep reading »

    Who IS Jill Biden, Anyway?

Now that Barack Obama has chosen Joe Biden as his running mate — and he’s due to speak tonight at the DNC — we decided to indulge our curiosity about his wife Jill. Is she as awesome as Michelle? Does she have a steely stare like Cindy McCain? Does she appreciate a pantsuit? Here’s the scoop on the potential Mrs. Vice-President.

FAMILY: Born Jill Jacobs in 1951, Jill is actually Joe Biden’s second wife. His first wife, Neilia died in a car accident, along with their baby daughter Naomi, in 1972, shortly after he was elected to the Senate. Joe Biden was actually sworn into office at the bedside of his young son Beau, who was also injured in the crash. Five years later, Jill and Joe were married in the Roman Catholic Church. The two met after he saw her picture in a local paper, and by coincidence his brother set him up with her. Jill raised his boy Beau and Robert as if they were her own — the two even included the boys in the wedding ceremony and took them on the honey moon — and also welcomed daughter Ashley. They now also are grandparents to five and live in Biden’s state of Delaware. Joe Biden is known for making the long commute from D.C. to Delaware every night to be with his family.
